So, while he is undeniably a great coach, he will have to take the step from working as underdog, to being the favourite (in the continent at least) which not all coaches can do.

Good point, didn't really think about that.

That said Regragui probably has enough credit he should survive even if they don't win AFCON. But ofc there is a big difference between for example losing the final on penalties or going out in group stage (they have a pretty easy group so don't expect that but stranger things have happened).

But good for them that they already have a succession plan (next manager) prepared if/when he leaves (for whatever reason). Don't think many countries world-wide can say the same. Mostly because coaches usually prefer to work in club football. Zidane is probably the only one who's consistently turned down other offers while waiting for Deschamps to leave so he can take over France. Looks like he'll finally get his wish after the World Cup. Would be quite fun if France would choose another coach in the end but I believe they already have everything agreed with Zizou.

Biggest factor is the construction of an academy with state of the art facilities , specialized in developing talents while living there à la Masia. After graduation. These players are free to sign for whatever club (local or foreign).

Thanks for answer.

That's a great system. Won't work in Europe where almost every club invest into their own academy and then clubs also fight to sign the most talented kids but other African, Asian and even South American countries outside of BRA/ARG who want to produce more and better homegrown talents should use your example. That said ofc not all of them can afford to invest that much in infrastructure but long term thinking and smart investment usually pays off.

Rome wasn't built in a day and you can usually buy success in club football but not on international level. There you need to have good plan, patience and believe in your local talent. I've always been of the opinion that foreign/outside players clubs sign should be at least twice as good as their homegrown kids because they are usually (at least) twice as expensive. But ofc not many clubs these days think and work like this.
