1 - Marc-Andre ter Stegen

We’re one too many smokes from Tek from being Stegen’ed

Dread it, run from it, it is Stegen who dances between the Barcelona goalposts :mou:

Deco speaks about MATS:

Deco made it clear in the interview that the signing of goalkeeper Joan García had nothing to do with finding a possible successor for Marc-André ter Stegen. “One thing has nothing to do with the other,” Barça’s sporting director stated clearly. Ter Stegen, he said, “is a great goalkeeper, our captain, and at 33 he still has a lot of history to write here.”

The signing of García was rather intended to fill a personnel gap: “It wasn’t about replacing him, but about strengthening a position where we simply lacked depth.” Deco also emphasized that the decision was deliberately made with the long term in mind: “We wanted a young goalkeeper for the present and the future, not a 28- to 30-year-old for short-term results. That’s the reality.”

He added that many things in Barcelona tend to be blown out of proportion: “Sometimes topics here are simply exaggerated.”

When asked whether Ter Stegen had been informed in advance about the signing of another goalkeeper, Deco responded matter-of-factly: “That’s not how it works — you don’t explain transfers to players.”

There had been “no issue, no problem,” he said. The situation had simply arisen from the circumstances: “When Marc got injured, we only had Iñaki Peña and very young goalkeepers. We said that Astralaga and Kochen need playing time. But we also needed a reliable third goalkeeper.” Ter Stegen’s absence had only made that need more urgent.

For Deco, one thing is clear: “This is planning, not a replacement for Marc. Who plays is always up to the coach.”

The coach and the club currently prefer García. Does that mean Ter Stegen could leave in January with an eye on the 2026 World Cup? Deco answered that question firmly: “That’s absolutely not up for discussion.” The club has no intention of letting Ter Stegen go in the winter. On the contrary: “Right now, we’re short on goalkeepers — we even had to call Kochen back from the U-20 World Cup with Chile.”

His tone was clear and unmistakable: “If Marc were available, he would play. He has a contract, and that’s all there is to say.” A move in January? “Not a topic.”

Ter Stegen's recovery is going well, and in a few weeks it's expected that he'll start training on the grass again. @monfortcarlos

We would rather suffer than see him come back after injury and start games.
His time is done man, time to move on.
You are old and its no time to be fighting for your place.

SERIE A or SAUDI is waiting. Move on.

He's not the quickest in the head but hope he gets it now. I wouldn't allow him to leave on loan while we pay most of his salary but knowing Deco that will probably happen.

Letting him go for free would be great. We'll do something much worse, we'll loan him and pay his salary for years.

We have all the leverage, accept leaving for free on a permenent basis if you want to have a career and play WC or rot on the stands. Deco doesn't have the balls to do that.

Is Garcia only temporarily registered?

I've read we won't make any signings in January so the little salary we would free up by letting Mats leave on his condititions wouldn't matter. This should mean we can afford to wait for a deal that suits us, and if it doesn't arrive, he can be 3rd GK.

I guess the plan will be to get the Camp Nou to 60k capacity for after winter break, get those VIP seats towards the FFP and breath more easily, starting with Joan Garcia's registration.

If all else fails, go to a Sharman for cheeky 6 month injury somewhere, in classic Laporta fashion.
