Marco van Basten is unhappy with Frenkie de Jong's performance in the national team's last match.

On Sunday, the Netherlands defeated Finland 4-0 in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.

"Well, I think Frenkie de Jong made few forward passes. He played like a postman. He was expected to speed up the game. In fact, he disappointed me a little because his role was supposed to be to quickly move the ball from defence to attack. I was struck by the fact that he didn't do that at all in this match.

"Frenkie really lacked that. It's a shame, because he's a good player who has good vision to make forward passes," said the former Netherlands striker on Ziggo Sport.

:lol: Frenkie the post delivery boy. The uber meals guy. Savage by Van Basten, but also spot on. He needs the kick in the butt to be more proactive. Lacks assertive mentality and is more artist than athlete too often. His best matches is when he's most aggressive. Pedri also tends to be like that, but he has x factor in favour. Just more talented.
