Second part. Imagine hitting the post 5 times in a row, especially from that angle. I am sure this video has been posted here before, but not with Zidane being mesmerised by it. And he was much closer to the goal, central and just doing wee slow volleys. Diego was smashing at power, lol.

' is not this video.... Diego used to hit the crossbar from the edge of the six-yard box, the ball would come back and hit the crossbar again... This video is even more difficult... What's more, that same day he did what Zidane says, he hit him 16 times in a row, but it was almost dark and it couldn't be filmed, greetings'

Think it's more to do with style of play and mentality. Maradona was more extravagant and more of a showboater/showman at times, like Ronaldinho. Like the rabonas and overhead kicks and stuff. Messi has a very simple, economical style of football and dribbling. He doesn't try anything overly complicated or flashy for the most part. I mean he could easily do it, but he doesn't.

Messi plays football like his personality - minimal fuss.
I agree about their style and personality. But when you have short legs and big torso, it will affect your acrobatic moves.

Dude was blessed by the Footballing Gods.

His 86 campaign is the best WC campaign ever by a mile.
Only Garrincha 62 and Messi 22 are anywhere near it. Cruyff 74 could be a shout, Zico 82, but those first three are the best with Maradona the crown jewel.

Some say Puskas 54 too but there's less footage of that.

I remember the match, Brazil dominated the whole game. Then a moment of genius from Diego…
(By the way, Caniggia’s disallowed goal wasn’t offside… another assist from him , who else?)
Diego’s ankle in that World Cup…

Argentina were woeful in that tournament and carried by a barely fit Diego and Caniggia playing well.

It was a poor tournament on the field marred by backpasses, time-wasting by keepers like Packie Bonner and defensive football. It's a large reason why the backpass rule was brought in a few years later.

Him getting Argentina to the final of that tournament is almost as big an achievement as what he had done in Mexico. He was also kicked off the park in every game especially the final against the West Germans.
