8 - Pedri

This was more a case of running after PSG players while they controlled the game. That's the kind of stuff prime Barca did to opponents. Nothing to be proud of running tonight more than PSG.
True. But that's on the team as a whole. My point is that he did his best he could.

He was poor, but how many times ref let PSG stomp him or tackle him without a card? 3-4 times I think.

No excuse obviously, but I have to say, they did a bit Madrid on him (what Real did vs Olmo in a game last season). They took him out physically bullying him. Just like Kroos took him out in the Euro. It seems to be the tactic vs Pedri, which never seems to go penalized..

These yellows completely change the game. Especially when you have someone as good as Pedri on the ball.

The go to strategy vs Pedri is to physically take him out of the game. Repeat.

At this rate i don't mind if Flick pushes Pedri higher permanently. At least it would provide more control from CAM position.

Olmo is just invisible while Fermin isn't consistent enough.

Vitinha took over second half because he had a few very visually impressive interceptions.

But sit and focus on his game. His passes are usually nearest man or long to the right for Hakimi or to the left to Nuno.

I don't know how many times I have to emphasize this. But if you know those two guys are always wide to pass to. Makes your job so much easier.

He urgently needs a rest. Gavi's injury now becomes a real problem as he is the only player that could have provided a rest for FDJ or Pedri. Casado is just not good enough and Bernal is far from fully fit.

The difference in quality between Pedri & Vitinha when watching both at the same time is just MASSIVE.

Lucho:
Pedri cost us alot today. We talked about him in the pre-match but it was very hard to stop him

So he asked his players to kill Pedri.

It is not the first time Pedri gets gassed when the match is fast-paced. He will never be a top-marks player in this sense. You can't have everything, very few players were the complete package at CM, you can count them on one hand. If on top of that you make him cover for lazy wingers time and time again, it's gonna exaccerbate the issue.

He had too many sloppy give aways and his pressing was fairly terrible.

Another one who was poor.

Other than Eric and Ferran for his goal and effort everyone was below par.

Could probably learn to manage his energy better in games. Spends a lot of time twisting and turning with the ball while under pressure, searching for the heroic escape. We know he can pull it off but often you sense him depleting his tank and end up passing it backwards anyway, then look gassed and unable to relocate up pitch.

It's a trade off of course but if you can't last more than 45 mins then something has to give.
