Just skimmed through this thread. It always amuses me when people act like a club has won the transfer window before the players have barely kicked a ball. United fans have been doing this for years and had so much egg on their face (though to be fair Liverpool have much more success than them with transfers with their best 7 or 8). Yes, on paper they've signed some good players. But that is ON PAPER. We won't be able to tell if it's a success til a few years down the line and if these guys actually perform and win stuff.
Wirtz clearly has a lot of talent, but talent alone is far from a guarantee of success. Ditto Isak and Ekitike. I think Kerkez and Frimpong are good players but, like the others, they're coming from smaller clubs, untested at the highest level in a top club (same true of previous successful Liverpool signings tbf like Salah, Robbo, Virgil and Ali) and could easily flop.
Maybe people should actually wait until these guys actually play some games and prove themselves, eh? Rather than hail their super duper transfer window one month into the season, where they haven't even played well. It's like people think football transfers are FIFA Ultimate Team, these days, or fantasy football. There's much more to a footballer than what we see in their football talent - there's stuff we don't see like personality, intelligence, mentality, persona life, how well they adapt to a club or area etc. It's not like FIFA where you're buying a computer generated emotionless robot.
People talk about footballers these days like they are sacks of meat with fuck all else to them as as a person than how they play football.
Edit: Also, Liverpool struck gold with those transfers in Klopp's first few seasons there. I don't think they'll ever be able to repeat the value and performance that Robbo, Salah, Virgil and Alisson gave them. Edwards is seen as some sort of legend and I am not sure if he was in charge for them all, but I doubt even he expected they'd pay the dividends and offer the value they have. No way did he expect Salah to be one of the best PL players ever, for example. They exceeded all expectations and went toe to toe with an amazing City team for many years.
They might win more in future but that's because City are no longer a juggernaut and European teams aren't as good as they were in 2018.
I am not saying this won't be a successful window. Far from it. There's a good chance it will prove good (though they need to win a lot for that to be so, which is a huge ask). I am saying it's far from guaranteed and way too early to bleat about winning the transfer window.
