As I sad, a clear sign that he lacks ambition and confidence, it's not like he had a bad contract before. If protecting yourself is your first choice than you definitely are not aiming for greatness. A true champion with balls would never act like that.

But as it relates to protecting him, his agent did a flawless job.

That's undeniable. However, at the age of 22 protecting yourself should not be your only motivation. Even more if we acknowledge the fact that his previous contract already made him rich.

It definitely played a role, amongst other things, but I think that info tebas leaked gave him cause to pause and the club couldn't give him any assurances, because they themselves knew he wouldn't be registered until around August.
