Having outcoached and outclassed Luis Enrique in the final, is Enzo Maresca now the favorite for Manager of the season? I think so.

Maresca in his first season won two titles and secured top 4 PL finish. He's brought organization and tactical nous to this Chelsea side that otherwise looked in disarray with surplus transfers and lack of identity. When no one gave his side a chance he crushed the ego of Ligue 1's darling manager and his team and send them back to Paris crying with a silver plate.

Runner-up is Flick who in his first season won a domestic treble whilst overshadowing his archrivals, engineered the most potent attacking force in Europe while integrating youth and limited resources. Under him, Barca became the biggest entertainers in world football.

Second runner-up is Enrique who in his second season won a domestic treble with a club that has a monopoly over the league. Whilst working with limitless resources he struggled in the first half of CL, even barely qualifying for the knock-outs. He did eventually win the CL but his impotent showing in CWC final could potentially hinder his chances at individual recognition for last season as well as how he's perceived by the footballing masses going forward.

Ergo,

My Top 3:
Enzo Maresca
Hansi Flick
Luis Enrique

I know the QSG stans on the board will place LE as first. But you can't be thoroughly and comprehensively thumped in all depts in a tournament final and still be called the best in the world. Sorry, not sorry.

Maresca won conference league against clubs nobody ever heard of and got wildly outplayed by the first serious opponent he faced (in the final, lol) until individual brilliance bailed him out

In CWC also easy route to the final. Group stages got absolutely hammered by a Brazilian side. Red card saved him against Benfica, unbelievable luck against Palmeiras and fairs did well against Fluminense in semis and complacent PSG side in the final

Overall probably not even top 10 managers this season. And securing top 4 in the premier league is no achievement with squad that's worth gdp of some smaller country

Maracas needs to do more than a friendly cup and a losers cup to be manager of the year.

It's still LE, with Hansi second winninh the double and the best football in Europe, with a group Xavi's publically said we couldn't compete with.

If you wanna dissect his achievements that way, I could do the same for Enrique and for several other managers.

Regardless of its relative importance, every tournament presents its own challenges. While the conference league is played against "nobodies", they are usually played under hostile atmosphere, difficult turf (some of them synthetic) extra-motivated opponents vying for a title, and for a EL spot. Even if you wanna dismiss it completely, it is still a trophy and having a good team doesn't always guarantee success.

The top 4/5 was very closely contested last season, with Chelsea finishing outside CL places in the previous two. So he brought them back into the CL when there were questions surrounding them, and even being mocked at for their surplus signings. A winning formula takes time.

Saying he beat only a complacent QSG is like saying QSG beat only a deflated and demoralized Inter in the final. It doesn't matter if they had an "easier" route, they comprehensively beat the European Champions who were seen as an indomitable and invincible force by almost everyone and their grannies. That myth was broken by Maresca, tactically more flexible than any of my aforementioned managers. And since these International tournaments are given a lot of weight when it comes to individual awards. Don't be surprised if he makes a top 3 finish.

You can disagree about top 3, but to say he's not even top 10 is an irrational assertion.

Flick is the manager of the year. It's not really close. He didn't have unlimited petro dollars like Enrique, whose team were getting outplayed in Europe regularly until he spent 75m on Kvara in January. A luxury Flick couldn't even dream of.

Least of all the luxury to have a 1 billion euro net spend last season, like Enzo. Nor would Flick have had the luxury to spend 60m on a striker, mid tournament, to be decisive in winning said tournament, like Enzo.

Flick turned Xavi's borefest of a side into the most entertaining team in Europe and brought a triplete along with it.

I know it's a forum speciality to play down our achievements, but not having Flick as Manager of the Year is particularly self hating.

Believe you me. I have lot of admiration for Flick's work at Barca. Amongst those few who made a case for him against the hate from the Xavi and LE clan. I also maintained that Barca under him will prove handful in a potential face-off against QSG. As much as his domestic titles are worth cherishing, they will not take precedence over an international/continental title. I would love to see him in CL final in the future adapting his tactics to the opposition. Until then, he will be perceived as the second best (as much as I dont like saying it).

Have to respect the terrible and everyone knows how I rate this PSG side, in particular that Midfield.

But who gives a fuck about the French league and French Cup.

Which is why I would give the golden ball to raphinha or yamal.

Because what we are fundamentally comparing is a CL title vs a Domestic Double.

I think the domestic double is a bigger achievement.
