Why should they? He is one of our few weak points.
The only weakness is his lack of experience. And maybe height.
Him playing alongside Inigo last year, showed how good he can be. Both got fatigued by the end of the season, so a drop in form is expected.

You pair him up with, fast tall CB and see how good he can be. If Christensen remains fit, he is all that we need to have a WC defense.

Lack of height and muscular, lack of speed, lack of good choices in 1v1. These are very important points for CB. Yeah he can improve but if araujo finds his form from xavi season he is the best in our defense.

He lacks any "outstanding" physical tool for a CB. below 1.85cm is below average for a top CB, he lacks speed, athleticism, and strength. He is fairly mistake prone but we can always attribute that to his age.

It takes a generational level of talent to overcome all of those to be elite CB in this age and era. Cubarsi might be one, but might also be a smaller De Ligt who was just an early bloomer.

Him needing a very specific profile to be paired with, is in itself a weakness tbf.

I disagree with @Titan98 about selling him for 30M, for a starter he can bring at least double of that.
Never mind Barca never sell a player until they are 100% sure he won't make it, as I said previously, this is why we are perceived as a club who don't know how to sell. So, it isn't even worth discussing as it will never happen.

But I don't see our defense as complete either, we lack a World Class CB atm, probably the only position we lack a top 5 or even top 10 player along GK (until Joan proves his worth, at least).

lack of good choices in 1v1.
Can be attributed to experience.
And Age. He's 18. Give him some years and he will develop muscles. So again, experience.
He is not the fastest. But he has a decent pace. So again, I stand firm.
He has elite passing. That alone makes up a lot of his shortcomings. His game IQ is very good aswell. And being 18 he will definitely improve.

His physicality has not stopped him from marking some of the biggest and fast forwards in the world before the age of 18.

De ligt had one good season in the CL and that's it.

Has time has shown us, all those Ajax kids were overate, we thought they would be generational and now de Jong is the best of the lot which says it all.

Cubarsi been doing this for two years now against the best, had some bad games but many more good ones

Lets just say he stays the same and doesn't improve. His game IQ is still very good, which will only get better with experience.
His passing is elite for a CB. And being Masia, he is seldom going to regress in that aspect.
Maybe, he never gains the muscle and strength. So he lacks height, a bit of speed and Muscle.
Even then he's a pretty good CB with the attributes he already has.

If Flick manages him to turn around in his head and somehow makes him smarter, he still has the potential to become one of the best defenders in the world, because he's a physical beast with a good pace.
Let's hope a full pre-season will erase the biggest flaws in his game. Last year he was injured and couldn't prepare the season under Flick.
