Club World Cup

I'd imagine the Spaniards and the Italians are no 1 when it comes to this. But some real testing won't happen as we are too deep into this.
That's pretty bad, and ASM was quite unaware of it too. Not to be that sort of guy but it's well known that Jose's teams will all have been very doped so doesn't surprise me.

Yeah, Spaniards and Italians will be the worst. Like you say, we are so deep into it as with other matters in football that now past point of no return.

I didn't watch the match. Just watched the highlights now. Pretty shocked that not only dud Chelsea win but they won big.
With happened to PSG?
DID Lucho get his tactics wrong?
I didn't really have full attention on it for spells, but PSG left a lot of space in behind. The first two goals by Palmer were almost carbon copies where he finishes from, and came from counters and there was such sloppy marking.

Great finishes by him, but the goals were pretty cheap, which speaks to complacency on PSG's part. Chelsea did very well tonight but we have to bear in mind it's a one-off game.

And why all thus talk of PEDS? DID I miss something?
It's only 8:30 in the morning here.
Discussion about PEDs started when someone mentioned the bloated calendar and how teams in CWC won't recover due to the extra games.

They're all loaded on drugs anyway. All we talk these days is about pressing all over the field and kms covered.

I only saw the highlights but PSG looked listless and complacent. Got hit hard in the first half and never recovered.
The two teams I hate most in the EPL are Chelsea and Utd. I'm happy Utd are in a mess but hoping Chelsea are not on the rise.
It was definitely complacency, which is why a theme of my posting in here is people getting carried away with one-off results. Play this game 10 times PSG likely win 8 - but tonight was one of the two, largely because of their own arrogance and hubris.

I hate those two clubs too. United are my most hated club in the world. I think with Chelsea they won't be challenging Liverpool and City anytime soon. Without blowing my own trumpet I have got a lot right in recent years with the PL so you can put a degree of faith in my opinion.

PSG are a very good team but they've been glazed so much. I mean Aston Villa should have knocked them out of the CL and they didn't even make the top 6 in the Premier League last season. They battered PSG at Villa Park and Rashford had them on toast.

very fair point but that is one game too. Every team has games where they get outplayed or it's tight, or they scrape by. I know Villa aren't an elite side really compared to some of the sides who gave the following problems, but City, Liverpool, Real, Bayern have had those types of games in their successful seasons too.

Like I say, it's been 6 months if top tier form. They need to sustain it in the next season and beyond to prove it's not form and they can build a legacy. As my point goes though, it is almost impossible for them to do that as they can only receive credit on one front, as very few people value the French title. Other teams could win the PL and get credit even if they lose the CL. But the flip side of that is PSG get more rest in a weaker league so that improves the CL chances for them.

Really it's CL or bust for them. And only Real have retained the European Cup in the CL era...

You're right. And PSG losing this game doesn't lessen them as a team. But I've seen some people online say that they're the best team ever, which is ridiculous. They've got a long way to go before they enter that sort of conversation.

People wrote Chelsea off for this final but I saw enough from PSG against Villa last season to know that Chelsea had a chance if they turned up. Plus Villa didn't have Cole Palmer, who is a truly special player.

Yeah claims of the best team ever is big delusion lol, that's just kids or people getting carried away with the hype.

I do think they're one of the better teams of recent years though based on the form they hit in the last 6 months. But again, they might be playing at a level they cannot sustain.

I probably was harsh on Chelsea yeah - I dislike them (not a fan of PSG either though) and thought James in midfield would be an error, hence that. Agree on Palmer too - maybe my favourite player in the Premier League, or at least top 5. He's supreme. For me he's England's most talented player (though Kane is still the overall best for me).

Why you not a fan of African football brother?
😂😂😂

In all seriousness, I actually watch African football here and there, I’m informed of the recent CAF Champions League winner and regularly watch AFCON. I also support ES Tunis and their recent attempts in conquering the CAF Champions League.

What separates Palmer from some other great English players is that he shows up in the biggest games. He hasn't been anywhere near to his best this year due to off field issues but still often has moments of brilliance. He reminds me of Ribery a fair bit in some ways. (and not just because he's also more Arm Pitt than Brad Pitt)

As an England fan it's a shame that James has been so injury stricken. At his best he's the most complete and well rounded RB out of him, Trent and peak Walker. But often when he's playing himself into something like his best form he will inevitably pick up yet another hamstring injury.

Yeah Palmer is a great player, he is similar to Ribery with the high technical ability, dribbling and high IQ. Better goalscorer though. Funny you imply he's ugly as he won a sexiest footballer poll recently, but I think those women must be insane

Walker relied a lot on his recovery pace; Trent is more of a passer and playmaker from deep with lapses of concentration. James is more complete than both but as you say, he's very injury prone. I know he's done well in this tournament but nobody can convince me though he's a long-term midfielder. It won't work over the course of a season or seasons in my view. But he is a very good RB.

The revisionism on that match keeps coming up here.

Barca shouldve participated and let La Masia play.
Said it before. If they change this format a bit, I see this as a win.
  • Keep the club World Cups outside Europe.
  • Start around the 1st week of July, so this becomes a glorified Pre-season for EU clubs.
  • Enable the team to have at least 7 or so rotations.
  • Dont have a starter clause or something for EU teams.
  • Reduce the revenue for EU teams by about 10-20% and distribute it to the other team more.
I see this as an absolute win.
Similar to this year, the teams outside the EU will take it far more seriously than the EU ones. They need the money and the bragging rights.
If a EU club wants to take it seriously then good, but will also be fatigued in the long run. The others can just use it as a glorified friendly/pre-season to start their Season stronger.
