I always wondered. How hard is it to convince players to play in the club that played best football for the last 30 years.
To play with Romario, Rivaldo, Ronaldinho, Messi... with numerous others from Spanish golden generation etc.
To live in a nice city on the sea, warm weather, to play in the biggest stadium.

All that and we consistently ended up overpaying and giving more than generous salaries.

Lack of long term planning is evident. Presidents change and each board has their agenda and favours to do so there is that. But still goes a long way from explaining the ineptitude and lax attitude .

Sometimes we are bailed out by superb managers or hitting jackpots with Masia.

Shame every aspect of the club was not and is not ran professionally as Masia. Or having a character of Cruyff, Pep, Lucho or Flick.

Our board and Sporting director is shit. That has been clear for the past decade.

And then you have Madrid, where players run down their contracts to join them.

Its all because we faff around too much and get egg on our faces often, so the player representatives know they can play with us.

In this regard I liked Jordi. Atleast we moved with purpose and got a fair few free and cheap signings done.

Players we have convinced to sign for us in recent years under far from ideal circumstances, off the top of my head, I'm sure I'm missing a few.

Auba
Kessie
Torres
Depay
Luuk de Jong
Gundogan
Lewa
Raphinha
Christensen
Olmo
Kounde

In that time we went from 9th to 2rd largely due to signings that improved the team after January.

Win 2 league titles in 3 years
1 CL QF and SF.

All with one hand tied behind our back.

Very incompetent people running the club obviously, because if we had more competition people, we would have won 4 league titles in a row and at least 1 CL, because others could have come in and done better under the circumstances and convince the leagues of Mbappe to sign for us.

Nico says no and all of a sudden we can't convince anyone to join.

There was a time we could convince anyone to join, by just throwing money at them, thank God we are pass those days.

You mean like winning the domestic treble and be 2 minutes away from the CL final ?

I am sure that this will be hard to repeat without a few signings. If any of our wingers or full backs gets injured we are fucked. I am not saying we need to sign two stars but rather a backup fullback and a young fast winger with high potential.

If you remember both of our fullbacks were injured during semifinals and that was probably one of the reasons we didn't reach finals. Martin and Fort are just not good enough. Same goes for wingers. When Yamal or Raphinha were out we simply had no one to cover their positions. We need to fix that up this summer.

Money is a way to show you are the best and biggest too. Some players care about it, maybe even too much. Especially guys like Ronaldo, but those are type of guys who we could never sign over Oil Clubs or sleazy Madrid. They will for the most flash and bang.

Basically the best players still believe they should be paid the highest. The best clubs can keep their stars, meaning they have enough prestige and money. Without money you are just past it.

In the end, humans value money and to have the best club in the world probably means paying the highest salaries. Paying high salary isn't issue if you have a great income.

Humans have always glorified companies which are valued the highest, people with the most money etc. same goes for football.

Im guessing there is an underlying financial issue.

Also if they were set on Nico and he says no - the timing doesn’t really make sense to be able to turn around a deal with a different player/team in 3 or 4 days.
