How many European Cups/Champions Leagues have Barca thrown away?

Yea, but fans are like that. You can't give a penalty there because the first to push the opponent is Pogba. So if are to be scrupulous as a ref you give offensive foul first. Besides, Vidal could've easily been sent off in the first half, and we could have received a penalty (as super-soft as the Juve one would've been) for a handball at Litschteiner.

There was no controversy in that match, other than the bitterness of Juve fans for losing yet another final.

Also disagree Chelsea had more ref. errors going their way in the tie. It was about even if you judge them carefully, but it's human nature to complain more about said mistakes when you lose, than when you win. The British media spun that in their favor because in the decisive game in England the ref did favor us more. They conveniently forgot Barcelona had 4 huge ref error (no offside for Eto'o 1 vs 1 with Cech, red card for Bosingwa and penalty for us for a clear shirt pull on Henry in clear goalscoring situation, and a clear 2nd yellow for Ballack not given) against them on Camp Nou, and that Chelsea had their own Ovrebo in that game.

There's a difference between what really happened, and the biased perception of the losing sides.

Don't forget the Ney goal that was disallowed too. Open to interpretation I guess but still final scoreline should have been 4-1 Barca.

There was no team on Earth close to Barca in 2015.

Yea, best bet is 7. 8 would be pushing it. I agree with those saying 2012 is far from a sure thing playing vs a top Bayern on their stadium, although we played our best football in Rome and Wembley finals. 2010 and 2019 we win almost for sure if we don't fuck it up in the semis, ties only we can fuck up to be honest (huge bad luck and ref errors vs Inter and insane bottling job vs Liverpool on Anfield).

I agree that Bayern in 2012 were really good and I'm not too sure we would beat them.

2010 is the big one for me. We were winning in San Siro and then got really complacent, losing that first leg 3-1. Second leg was a weird match where Inter absolutely parked the bus and that seemed to be Pep's kryptonite. Very questionable decision to rule off that Bojan goal too.

And 2019, I mean I don't need to say anything about that. So overall two CL's for me where I think we could've won.

2010 and 2019 are my picks.
2010 we were the best team in the world by quite a margin.
2019.. It was on a plate for us and we messed up. Liverpool were a better team though.

Path to winning CL final is long and you can play great all season and then have one bad match or one bad referee call and it's over.

Don't want to look at specifics but overall, in last 20 years, it is Barca that played best football on the planet. Through Rijkaard, Pep, Lucho till now.
In that time we won 4, which, admittedly, is few short of deserved based upon football produced throughout last 2 decades.

Fair point. In knockouts, even top teams can slip, some exits were collapses, others just bad timing or small margins. It happens to every great side eventually.

2015-16
2018-19
2024-25

Correct list in general.
I would say there are 3 levels:

1) 11/12 was the most suicidal. we were levels above the rest and we would have smashed Bayern in that final
2) 09-10, 15-16 he had the team to do it, but we did not take it as seriously in the KOs
3) 18-19 we were not as good as people thought. Messi was simply carrying a meh team, and Pool exposed us
4) 24-25 we were just not as ready and mature

Next season we can do it!

1986 too, should have won Steaua

Then there is that final in 60s but back then Benfica was prob the better team (won back to back) so hard to say we threw it away

I like what khaled said above though. Sometimes you are not lucky and you lose but one day it comes back you're lucky and you win. It evens out. In 2009 as great as we were we had a lot of luck in that Chelsea game in London

I only said the modern era ones because I watched the eliminations fully either live or in replay. Regarding the European Cup eliminations/finals losses it’ll take me a while before I start to watch those matches. 1961 final was pure fortune for Benfica since I have heard Barça hit the woodwork 4 or 5 times.

Also regarding the Chelsea game, it is a payback for the injustice they gave us back in 2005 regarding the tug on Valdes by Carvalho on the 4th goal scored by Terry in Stamford Bridge.

True, but it is not so even with Barca.

Only 2009, out of the CL wins, one can argue (even with some doubt) Barca should have gone out earlier.
All the other CL wins (at least post-2006, I can't talk about 1992 as I was not old enough to follow) we were the best team in Europe, hands down, and won fairly and squerly all KOs and finals: 2006, 2011, 2015

On the other hand, the times we were unlucky far outweigh the possibly only 1 time fate smiled to us

PS: If you do the same with Madrid. Most of their CLs post-1998, they did not deserve and luck/refs were on their side: 1998, 2016, 2018, 2022, 2024
That's at least 5 out of the 9 they won since 1998 (and I am lenient here)
