Not the greatest translation but here's what Andy Bara had to say about Cardoso.
Bara is known for being shady obviously but Porto again come off as not completely giving a shit about the players well being and more concerned about potential lost revenue.

After all this fuss, agent Andy Bara (Cardoso Varela) spoke to a Croatian media outlet and was very direct towards Villas-Boas and Porto: "He was a great coach, but he's the worst president in Porto's history. Everyone at the club knows that, including the fans.

There are no good guys in this story in General but often or not the Agents/Parents get the blame for a lot of it but Clubs like Porto/Benfica/Sporting undoubtly get away with a lot of shady shit when it comes to talent recruitment.
That's why I fucking hate dealing with any of those three clubs. Yes we are guilty of doing a lot of dumb/bad shit but there's a reason why all three of those clubs are so caught up on legal shit and accusing one or the other of paying off Refs or them getting their offices raided more often or not.
I just cannot see how we can be found liable if we end up signing Cardoso. I doubt there was some sort of long-term planning by Bara to try and take him to our club foremost.
It seems like if Bara says it's true it seems like there were other clubs interested in him and AVB was just trying to threaten them not to sign him.

Who knows, but he seem to be very explosive and a good dribbler.
If he’s shit we lose 5m which isn’t a big deal. If he is decent we might make a profit selling him and if he is very good and ends up costing 25m then no one will care.
It’s the type of signings we should make more often.
