Let's put it this way.

If ter Stegen was nearly as good as Neuer we have at least one more CL title IMO because that 2019 performance vs. Liverpool was shambolic. There's a reason he's seemingly the only GK Messi doesn't rate at all.

Hey if you want to suck ter Stegen off with his mid performances then I'm not gonna stop you lol.

Find it just a bit ironic how you're such a miserable cunt all the time shitting on all the players we have, but would go to war for a goalkeeper that's just average in big games.

I choose my battles.

You seem way too rattled tbf.

For me there was no doubt that Stegen is not legendary level(like Neuer is). He's a good GK for what Barca wanted, that's about it. We paid peanuts for him in therms of transfer fee and salary.
At the end of the day it is not so important who plays there, but most in here exaggerate his performances. Didn't hear a peep when he won us a league last year.

Most of the times we went out of CL have been in disastrous defensive performances where no GK would make a difference. GKs can make a difference in good teams where they're protected and with a strong defense that helps close angles.
Stegen, whilst he has had some bad CL performances, they were usually in games where the defense was a complete disaster and letting clear chances from every angle.

He's not been a bad transfer considering he barely cost anything. Definitely not a big match player though.

It is what it is as Ernie would say. Good league GK, shit CL one.

Usually he is on the same level as the rest of the team. When we're eliminated we go down bad and it rarely happens he is the one to make the biggest mistake.

What I do think is that he is awkward from a social point of view. Does he have any friends in the team? That I think takes off points from the general image perceived of him. It certainly doesn't makes him a leader.

To be honest, Neuer's hands turned into Stegen-jelly for just 1 second in the entire tie, and it was enough to clear them out and send Madrid through.

That’s the cruelty of being a goalkeeper. He went from their man of the match to a villain in one second.
The great Emiliano Martinez single handedly saved some 1 billion + Argentina/Messi/Barca fans around the world from suicide watch with that Kolo Muani save in min 123.

More than anything, that moment just gives me shivers whenever I think about what was at stake. Being a GK in these high stakes games (WC/Euro/CL KOs) isn't a job for the weak hearted.

No one gives a @#$& about his general perceived image. We are looking at his performance on the pitch. Why you bring that into debate god knows. if something is taking away from mats being a leader it is prolly uninspiring performances.

also keepers in general are known to be einzelgangers

I would say the single biggest reason why Barcelona had only 1 European Cup before 2006, is that we have NEVER had a world class goalkeeper. Ever.

Look at yesterday's game. Kobel wonder save at the end to deny Mbappe taking it to extra time and possibly penalties, where it would all be down to the goalkeeper again.

Today, Neuer would have been the difference maker in the tie if they had managed to win. Instead he was the difference maker in the tie with his mistake.

The goalkeeper is by far the most important player in the pitch. We have to be doing better than MATS if you want UCL success. It's that simple.

Lack of all time great GKs and also a lack of all time great managers, with some exceptions like Pep and Cruyff.
