Let's first avoid City, and get back as many from the injured players as possible. Especially De Jong is key.

It's really hilarious that Pool finished 5th last season and squandered CL chances.

They would be co-favorites as things stand lol.

There is no trophy for who won the football game stat sheet or some hypothetical half baked (as of now) simulation fantasy called xWhatever

Otherwise, we would be auto CL winners for all 4 years under Pep. We played Inter and especially Chelsea off the park in those ties.
No point discussing who won the match. Just check Sofascore for that.

Just because Atletico won their KO match against Inter after the PK shootout doesn't make them a better team this season. Like there's no doubt Pep's Barca was the best team in Europe during Pep's reign.

Btw., it's 9-5 in shots on target. Inter had 15 shots compared to Atletico's 23. In Milan, it was 19 to 7, 7 to 0 on target for Inter. 3.85 compared to 3.09 xG on aggregate.

No doubt Atletico is a gritty team with a class manager and a tough opponent for anyone, but over the course of the season Inter is ahead. As a team and as per the quality of football they produce.

I think if AM and Inter of this season were to play this whole CL tie 10 times, I would wager it would be 5-5, 6-4 (either way).

I'm not saying AM were the better team or would be the clear cut better team; I'm arguing that the gap between Inter and AM in this tie wasn't as clear cut as the gap between Pep's Barca and Chelsea. I think we had like x 5 the shots on target overall

Don't know who you're arguing with because I never claimed that

And yeah, quite possible. Atletico is a team well suited for the KO competitions. As for the matchup, Inter played better and created more overall but failed to take their chances. Both in the first leg and today. On the other hand, Atletico took theirs which is not easy. Happy for them actually.

Maybe the grit of CL might have hurt them, you never know.

But a broader look, such turn over hurt leagues in Europe tbh.
The likes of Osasona, Villarreal and Sevilla became a shell of what they were, hurting Liga badly. Sociedad was consistent and did their Job, Betis was consistent but were a bust due to lack of depth mainly.

Italy suffered from the dig in form of Lazio & Napoli, and EPL will miss having Liverpool over Newcastle.

This matters now more, as top 2 UEFA coefficient leagues get 5th team each. Before the 4 leagues were just kind of comfortable there.
Today clubs like Bilbao has a boost to their hopes of playing CL.

Return leg at home decided the tie in Atleticos favour. Cholo has a lot more experience in CL knockouts than Inzaghi too.

@Birdy sit the fuck down, ya pompous clown. You were anointing Inter and Inzaghi when more sensible fans here were telling you about Simeone's LONG and PROVEN history of beating top teams (sometimes in an ugly way, sometimes by sheer tactics) - he has beaten MSN Barca, Pep's Bayern, peak Pool, and many more in CL ties

@ajnotkeith no hate for you but hopefully this result supports the points I was trying to make how Inzaghi hasn't yet earned the caliber that Simeone and Allegri displayed at their best (which is beating top teams in KO ties)

If, after watching football for 20 or so years, you can't understand that in a knock-out tie NOT the best team always goes through, then no one can help you
That, coupled with your idiosyncratic obsession of judging things based on what happens in CL knock-outs, a phase where contingency and luck most of the times play the major role, INSTEAD of the proper mirror of every team which is the league and the whole course of the season

Other than that, Simeone's flavour has really faded from world's football. They are not the team they were until 2016, even a blind man can see that.
They won the league in 2021 by luck, as Madrid were horseshit that season, and we were in transition with Koeman, and the fact that LL is always a 2.5 team competition.
You know when Simeone will win LL again? well, NEVER most likely

So STFU and start thinking and understanding, instead of celebrating a knock-out elimination in the R16 as if it's a big feat that proves things, and hailing 'big Simeone'

I cant believe it! Just saw the highlights, Atletico was lucky that Inter didnt score their numerous chances in first leg. Overall good for us as i think beating Atletico is easier than Inter. Lets go, siu.

Inter would have won on away goals. Which I think would be a fairer assessment of how both teams performed over both games.

So while the change makes it more entertaining, I'm not sure if it actually validates the fairest result.

Not the point. Professor Birdy spouting nonsense like Inter are 3 classes apart is.

Anyways, Atlético has the unique ability to get other teams down to their level. And yeah, that’s a quality.

As if that's a bad tie for you guys. They always bottle it versus you.
I mean they didn't bottle Copa and in general they don't vs Carlo

It's an annoying tie and would argue at Wanda we have nothing to play for, we'd lose there and have to come back in return leg if at Bernabeu. Not sure thatll be the case

This season Atleti I'd be more annoyed with drawing than Barca, Bayern or even Arsenal
Would also very much prefer playing Inter, not even in hindsight. They're just not good enough and get far too big a pass, got the benefit of the bracket last season while year before that may have done well but ultimately not well enough vs Pool. They're a Wenger Arsenal. Far too many cartwheeling for these teams
