I think you are thinking of Alan Wake 2. Even though I haven’t played it, I have the same impression of actual gameplay being limited. Could be wrong.

Alan Wake 1 is very much a game. Rarely is control taken away from player. Mechanics aren’t deep but feel fresh. Reminiscent of Resident Evil 4 with cool flashlight mechanic.

Most of the narrative happens in form of narration whilst you play. Similar to Max Payne.
 
Had a blast playing Shinobi: Art of Vengeance. Old school type of 2D action game with a lot of modern QOL improvements
 
The puking is probably not true, because their bodies have completely embraced and accustomed to all the filth. For foreigners visiting India tho..
 
after finishing alan wake, now finished Control. 100%ed. Freaking masterpiece

Seems like most of the games you play have a huge story and background to it. And are long.

Only long game I ever beat is Gran Turismo 4 which is 210 hours.

Others are either RTS, manager games or games that are 10 - 15 hours.

They are mostly a waste of a day imo, but I can think of worse things to do.
