Maybe the tiny hope somebody will buy him next season? And even the 2m help us for the ffp, as ridiculous as it sounds. The club probably understood, that he has no problems to sit out his contract in the stands if he needs to, so parking him there is no more threat for him.
 
I think the main rationale behind a loan is to just get rid of his dressing room influence. Putting him on the stands doesn't preclude him from training with the team or sharing the dressing room.

Dont think this loan will work even short term. He's damaged goods and will return soon with another injury in a month or two.

I am not entirely unsympathetic towards Marc, being a divorced father myself. But paying entire salary while letting him go is ridiculous.
 
At the end of the day it is a job for these players. Expecting them to take voluntary pay cuts is overly optimistic.

Yes, they live good lives, but at the same time, they are just honouring their contract. The contract has to mean something.

Both clubs and players are criticised for honouring contracts in today's football. But if you signed those terms you need to abide by them, part of the risk of giving a player a long-term contract is this, and it happens.

Don't post sensible stuff in here man. Otherwise the millionaires on barcaforum who forfait millions out of their own good will for companies will be all over you.

I'm fairly surprised some otherwise level headed posters are hating on a player for asking what he is owed trough his contract.

It will be less, the 10% rumor was before the tax issue so it has to be even less now. With us accepting a bad deal for Jofre just so Ajax takes this bum out of our hands makes it even worse. Another Deco masterclass, he just can't stop winning.

How did MATS even accept this? Wasn't there a whole thing about not leaving his kid behind? At least I respected that part of him trying to be a good father.
 
Sickening. Remember, these Barca directors are paid to make these deals happen.

But nothing inordinately, as Barca just got spat on in live TV by Ferran fucking Torres.
 
Despite his physical problems and decline I still thought we could find a club willing to cover more than 10% of his wages. I don't think 20 or 30% would be too bad a deal for a EL or midtable level club looking for a starting keeper.

This is not meaningfully different to terminating him, except for how the cap is distributed (not sure how terminations are weighted on FFP).

Ajax have an option to buy but there is probably very little chance of triggering that at 34 with a 15-20m wage. At best, if he performs this season, we could find a team for him in the Gulf.

Well, I suppose it increases our chances of being able to move him next summer if he has a decent season there. That's about all we get from this deal.

Disappointing but semi understandable that nobody wants to pay 30 or 40 percent for a GK who hasn't been fit in 2 years.
 
I will be shocked if he is not massive liability for Ajax and goes to bench within few months of his loan.

I think one of these two is most likely to happen.

This guy is literally finished. And he was shit even when he wasn't finished. Then you add to that all the injuries and setbacks.

But it's a low risk move for Ajax. They don't really pay anything for him.
 
Just proves what an average player he is and was, no club wants to take a risk with him. How such a bum stayed so long at Barca is a mystery. I am 100% sure if we had a quality GK in his time here, we would have 2 more CLs at least.
