Ronaldinho

Every once a while I run into his highlights on tiktok or youtube.

The only player that makes me shake my head at the absurdity of his touches, dribbles, passes, and creativity.

There's a dimension of football in which he is the absolute best there ever was, I'm not sure what to even call it. Perhaps it is imagination and expressiveness.

An absolute God of the game.

I was watching his documentary on Netflix yesterday and one of the guy being interview said something like.

"I say this without fair of being proven wrong. Their has been no better player than Ronaldinho in the history of football".

I get what he means, he's not saying he's the best ever.

But on a cold went night in stoke, the best ever isn't better than peak dinho.

of all the Brazilian Forwards who all came for a good time not a long time, he probably had the best overall career. Only romario and Neymar came close. But no champions League or world cup respective.

Rivaldo didn't win a Copa libertadores, his CL win he wasn't peak are close to it.

Ronaldo career in Europe is just one big black hole, mainly due to injuries. But really even after the injuries he didn't deliver for Madrid on the big stage.

While dinho has won literally everything from U17 level to senior with the exception of the U20 world cup where I doubt he played.

League titles
CL
Copa America
Copa lib (when everyone thought he was washed).
WC

He did it all and contributed to it.

When It comes to game to game excellence and honors won. You can make a better argument for him being a top 10 player of all time than someone like zidane IMO, but people get distracted by the fact they he partied a lot and if not could have won more.

Magician who helped change the course of Barca but wouldnt have him near top 10 ever.

As much as think Zidane is over rated by some he had better career than Ronaldinho quite clearly.

Maybe at international level. And that's a hard maybe. Due to the excellent euro and WC performance the one he didn't win.

But at club level, game to game excellence, no chance.

Zidane was a look at me and playing pretty but had next to no impact for Madrid in most games.

At Juve he was never the best player and only won player of the year based off the WC goal and having a good but excellent season.

His club career comes nowhere close to what dinho did for Barcelona. Anyone who thinks differently is a crazy person.

Then he went to Brazil when everyone thought he was washed and won the Copa.

Ronaldinho was good at the 2002 World Cup but very much the 3rd wheel behind Ronaldo and Rivaldo.

In the 2006 World Cup when expected to be main man he was absolutely awful.

The other side of it is Ronaldinho probably had one top CL campaign his whole career when Barca won it and even then it wasnt legendary and he wilted in final as game went on v 10 men.

Would have Zidane ahead of him but both had less impact across many years as is often made out.

As for never being best player.. Ronaldinho himself says he wasnt the best at Barca in those years.

2006 World Cup was down to the coach being an absolute idiot.

Few things pisses me off more in football than how he was used in 2006.

By a country mile the best player in the world and he's played the furthest back of the 4 attacking players being used and the team is instead focused on getting the best out of a washed Ronaldo.

I think that WC is what broke is soul. He went in their thinking I'm coming to cement myself as probably the best ever and it didn't work out.

The 2006 World Cup it was also down to likes of Ronaldinho been absolutely awful.

We have seen good players let down by coaches but both can be true and Ronaldinho looked like he froze under the pressure.

He wasnt by far the best in the world either. It was very close with Henry and would have said one balondor a piece been about fair in those couple years.

The CL decided the balondor that year really between them and that final they met neither were the main men.

Ronaldinho himself says wasnt best player at Barca then.

Even the best players can't make up for shit tactics. To start the WC I agreed the pressure got to him, but he was progressingly getting better but the tactics was too shit for the entire Brazil team not just him to cover come.

So much talent in that Brazil team, the coach just didn't know how to use them, because he was afraid to make difficult decisions.

No one said all tactics
It was largely down to tactics for the entire team not just him.

The seasons he had either side of the WC tells us that.

After the WC he went on to have a 20/20 season and almost carried Barca with a bunch of injuries to the league title.

Which showed if use correctly he'll produce, even in unideal situations. Which is true for every player.

Can't just use World class players out of position and except them to perform, as jamdav said literally a day or two ago.

In 2006 World Cup Brazil won every game until they met France in QF.

Scoring 10 goals in 4 games.

There were top moments from likes of Kaka and a past it Ronaldo.

While Ronaldinho just looked lost/frozen. His dribbling/set pieces/final pass all off when had ball.

We also saw him wilt in CL Final as game went on so maybe the pressure of both was too much.

He was poor in the CL in 2006/07 also.

Fair play to him having a very good domestic league campaign but nearly winning league titles isnt where it is at for top players.

So they won every game except the one that matter. Nice.

He was being played out of position of course he'll be off, while everyone else was more or less playing in the position they played at club level.

"Can't just use World class players out of position and except them to perform" ,

jamdav April 2026"

The way you shift around from your own arguments just to make a point will forever be funny to me.

Yes they won and scored goals before meeting perhaps the best side there.

Ronaldinho was awful and not just tactics... when as said they won every game until met France and lost by a goal.

He was poor and froze.

2006/07 when he is poor in Europe again and fail to win league is not some trump card either.

You're glitching out right now, trying to argue around your own statement days ago

06/07 season is a excellent season by any measure. 40 goal contributions almost winning the league with all the injuries. WTF are you even saying.

Zidane never had a season like that in his entire career.

Shut up jamdav you started out reasonable and now you're just glitching out and talking your usual horse shit, argument for the sake of argument nonsense.

Because you are now trying to argue around your own words 😂.

Fake news... no relevance to any statements 'days ago'.

06/07 he was poor in CL and Barca out in last 16.

In league he had a good campaign as Barca fail to win... From open play 15 goals and 9 assists. Good not amazing and to be fair penalties have to be scored.

Not the trump card you think as was poor in CL/Europe again as Barca went out.

40 goals contribution, Close to winning the league, with injuries to the team. Not that impressive.

Barca concede 4 goals, with our DM supposedly being the best Midfielder on the park. We hear about it every few weeks 😂.

Do you even hear yourself?.

Ps nothing zidane did in Spain comes close to that season by dinho not even the year they won the league.

In 06/07 Ronaldinho scored one more goal from open play than a teenage Messi who was injury plagued.

That same Messi who scored hat trick v Real and voted 3rd in Balondor.

But you make out Ronaldinho almost 'carried' Barca to a league title...

The 2007 Balondor Ronaldinho was not even in the top 10.

You spout utter garbage.

Indeed Frenkie was by far the second best player against Inter after Yamal.. nothing here contradicts that... the oppisition coach agreed.. while the who, world in 2006 discussed how shite Ronaldinho was at that World Cup.

Try again.

When people know you could have achieved more they tend to forget everything you have in fact done.

Dinho with more discipline and commitment could have probably played more than he did and thus won more than he did. His prime was relatively short.

But this doesn't negate the fact he won WC, CL and ballon d'or and was also arguably robbed of a 2nd.

Exact same is true for Neymar, who had an incredible career.

This, in my opinion, is the main reason these two players are sometimes pushed in debates with footballers way below their level.
