Because he wasn't played in a suitable system/position. Mourinho is a master tactician who knows how to fit in players he rates. Even in recent years he got the best out of Dybala in Roma.

Basically, Jose's being back in La Liga is good for popularity sake. Emotional and expressive person. Overall, he's a good entertainer.
