Why we need a Benfica thread ?Thread to discuss the 2nd best team in Iberian peninsula
As we've seen over the past two seasons, the math ain't mathing. It's obvious they had the better squad, individually should be close to best in the world. But results didn't come for them.I am a little torn on the outcome if they lose on Wednesday and lose LL. That would be second season in a row trophyless for the Los Blancos.
Unlike the childlike planning of this club, RM are proactive and Flo would definitely do a major overhaul next season if it does happen.
First and foremost, they would get rid of Arbeloa and go all in for Klopp. Not good for us.
They would get rid of their streaky players like Brahim Diaz, Camavinga, Tchouameni, Asencio. Not good for us.
They would definitely sign Schlotterbeck, Enzo Fernandez, Nico Paz, and maybe even Olise. Not good for us.
The bigger point is we should have capitalized on this somewhat tumultuous time in the capital. Last year CL and sextuple opportunity was there for the taking.
Results did come for them. Madrid is indeed struggling with a lot of problems but they have no problem beating any of the lower sides. They have had some pretty good runs where they won plenty games in a rowAs we've seen over the past two seasons, the math ain't mathing. Be it chemistry between the stars they have, tactics or just the fact they bought players that didn't fit the team's style of play, they fucked up. Could very well happen next season also.
As much as Barca got the results in the league, we can't deny that Madrid didn't push us as expected. They shot themselves in the foot without us even putting much pressure on them. Probably Mbappe is as much of a bad voodoo as Zidane was a good one for them.
They've been wobbly all season, got their manager sacked mid-seaon. Truly a great Madrid team! Results did come for them. Problem is, Barca will likely finish this season on something like 95+ points or maybe even get the 100. That is a lot for even much better Madrid sides than this one to compete with
We simply took great advantage of their slip ups this season and that's why we've wrapped it up. If it was some other season Madrid would likely still be in the race
Not to speak of the constant referee help trying to keep them in the race
You can undermine the 2 titles all you want. Fact is it is a big achievement. This Madrid team is not as good as they should be but it's not a joke by any means as they have proven in CL this season. It's a top team with outrageous individual quality
It's never a miracle when Barca wins the title versus Madrid. It is what it is, a win. Not easy by any means and fought against good competition, which is what Madrid was. They've been wobbly all season, got their manager sacked mid-seaon. Truly a great Madrid team!
Fact is a team like Real Madrid is hyped beyond belief, mainly by social media as they are a click machine and get attention.
They had a bit of a purple patch in LL, in January and February, after having Xabi sacked. Arbeloa looks like a clown on that bench, way out of his depth.
Proven in CL this season?! They had to play play-off and then they got an unlikely 3-0 at home vs City, who were unlucky as hell in that tie. Bernardo red was another blow and again countless City misses in the return leg. That was basically Madrid's crowning moment of the season, in all comps.
They can have moments, but it is mostly due to individual performances or other circumstances. Not sustained top performances.
If you want to paint it as a miracle from. Barca to pull it off, be my guest. Flick clearly overachieved, but for me the level of the league and competition for the title was also a factor.
