Ousmane Dembélé

With Dembele I blame the club. Yes, he was an unprofessional dick but it didn't help having weak ass managers like Shitverde. If you have a strong manager who's not afraid to discipline his players, these issues are rare.

He always had genius moments, at Rennes, Dortmund, Barca too. This is just him peaking at the right time. We are so used to teenage prodigies these days, which Dembele also was, that a player peaking at 27 seems weird now. But it is normal.

Sure but he did have te mental switch. He always credits Koeman for it.

One of those what if situations. It was just bad timing all around when he joined us but most of the fault for his performances was his own.

But he was always the smartest money spent of the half a billion wasted.

When he started to turn it around he was already at the club for so long and probably wanted to new environment.

Also if he was still here, whiling being good he won't be this good. Enrique unlocked something in him.

He was the difference maker v Bayern over the 2 legs.

If he stars in the CL final again, you can make a legitimate argument that he's greater than Mbappe.
He isn't. Even with 3 CLs.

Difference maker? I'd say Kvara was more of a menace in this tie. Surely last night Kvara was the better player.

What has Mbappe actually achieved as a player other than statistics? All he has done is get all his managers fired every season.

He brings greatness to himself but not to the teams he plays for.

When he has a system that suits him he is no 1 bar none. See France NT. Plus I believe his problems are on the mental side, won too much too early and PSG also licked his balls.

Dembele also started playing when he had a great team that suited his play style.

While Dembele has his genius moments, he isn't the kind of guy to win you games single handedly.

I tend to agree that we have to see more from Dembele elsewhere in order to put him ahead of Mbappe one day.

The ballon d'or means nothing tbh. Benzema has ballon d'or and he is not better than Suarez or Lewa who don't.

Dembele has a good chance to show something in this world cup. We will see.

Yes, he does have mental problems, but at this level its unfortunately a crucial part of it.

Because to win the CL and the biggest trophies talent isn't enough. You have to be professional as well.

Talent can get you as far as he did. That is, he is one of the best players in the world and the best goalscorer in the world by statistics. But in the CL you will face also amazing players who work harder than you as well, and disrupt their team less, and lead their team better.

So if he remains a child and keeps destroying the locker rooms of his teams, they will not be able to win anything with him, because its a team sport and as the best player of your team you have a duty of leadership.

You’re underselling Dembele. You completely omit his leadership role and willing to press til final whistle.

Mbappe hasn’t lit world on fire in quite some time. Was poor in knockout stage with PSG as well before leaving. He doesn’t look that stellar with France either.

The reason Dembele is succeeding at PSG and Mbappe didn't in Europe is because Dembele is a professional. He is willing to follow instructions and sacrifice some personal statistics to play an important role for the team. He presses non stop, he doesn't complain, he is willing to be subbed off/benched etc.

If Mbappe followed instructions and didn't undermine his managers he can do what Dembele is doing for his team too. If he agrees to share and agrees to be another player in the dressing room he has a place in any team in history and he will be able to win all the biggest trophies too, if he is willing to sacrifice some personal statistics in the short term.

But he doesn't and he is not professional, he is a child who ruins the atmosphere of any team he plays for, and that matters a lot.

If you are a Madrid player, and you see Mbappe swearing and insulting the coaches, and nothing happens to him, what will you think of the justice in your club? Meanwhile Ceballos is getting removed from the squad for arguments with Arbeloa? Of course all their players see the corrupted power structure and the hypocrisy.

Mbappe is an incredible player but he is limited in some regards. And I don't think he realizes this, or wants to admit to himself.

He wants to be the main protagonist, taking the ball in middle of pitch, creating, linking up, passing... and it's all great but he is not this kind of player. He is a runner first and foremost. A menace on the wings who makes the difference with explosive speed and killer finishing.

He has strayed sooo much from that in this current role that it is no surprise he plays like shit. He doesn't know how to play striker, his box movement is ridiculously shit.

He lost physicality to be that explosive over a season. Slowed down 2nd half. But everyone pointin at the injury

Mbappe talked about how he hated defending even growing up as a child, how he sees it as something beneath him. He isn't just lazy in defending, he is making it a matter of principle, that it is something for peasants and not him.

On offense, he is neither a winger nor a striker, he is just "free" attacker which makes him a tactical nightmare. It is difficult to build a tactic around that.

He is similar to older Messi and CR7 (post 2018 or maybe 2016) but even then both were better and they already had far better history that there peers had to respect them and work for them. It still cost them a lot in Europe.

Modern football is more about what is your weaknesses rather than what is your strength. You are as good as your weakest link for the most part. Especially when there is no prime Messi/CR7 around. The two best players from gen Z so far (Mbappe and Halaand) combines 1 CL title in their career.

He is the best player in the World in the 2020's with his individual abilities, but as a team player, it is easier to build around other inferior players.

Add the financial aspect, and how much he earns and eat from the team salary cap and FFP, and it feels he is more of a burden than a privilege.
