Xavi was not the one at fault. The board fucked it up but they still had chance to keep him when renewed with the clause by offering better salary to renew longer term.

This was an issue in his early seasons.

Mentally flipped the switch with Koeman, he said that as well. Don’t know why you omit that.
 
I dont think I will ever get over being pissed off at this guy. His career arch is maddening. He showed so much promise when healthy here but wasnt serious…

Costs us CL final spot where we would have smashed Spurs.

Leaves for peanuts.

Stays healthy and becomes the best player in the world.

Karma. Our fault we went after him in the first place, since he showed his character in Dortmund and prior in Rennes. He doesn't respect contracts he signed himself and forces his leave immediately if he sees a profit in it. The club deserves this, after tolerating his shit behaviour in Dortmund and overpaying for an undisciplined manchild.
Sadly he profited aside his bank account too by staying healthy and getting into a CL winner squad by mere luck, so he could steal his Ballon D'Or, although everybody and their dog know he's not even close to be the best player in the world, or even the most important QSG player for that matter. But his name, also thanks to Barca, outshined others.

I hope it will be a lesson for the future, but I doubt it. Laporta and future presidents will be hunting each hype, no matter the character.
 
Their is only one board to be blamed for the dembele experiment at Barcelona and it's not the one who signed him for 120m then proceed to waste his talent due to poor management of the club. He played a big part in wasting his talent while here too

The board to be blamed is the one that had two Managers get some use out of him, had him help us to a league title and got 40-50m euros for him when he decided to leave.

He was their most important player last season, created the most chances, and had the highest assists and goals for them (also delivered for them in key matches with either a goal or an assist).

I don't know where a player does that for a team and isn't the most important for them in that Campaign.

How on earth did he get soooo good? Man its crazy. His decision making was worse than most segunda players, imagine that.

I think it describes the situation fittingly.
Dembele did what he wanted at Barca and just few days ago seen him speaking how Lucho would kick him out if he failed to press like the rest.

Slave needed his master.

It's true he needed a figure like Lucho to force him a bit but it starts on an individual level. This guy really wanted to make it big. It didn't work out at Barça but he still respects the club and speaks of it with very kind words

It's a shame we couldn't keep him 1 season more because Flick would likely have a similar effect on him

Now his chances for a 2nd consecutive ballon d'or are only rising. It all really depends on how France do in the WC

He was always good. He just wasn't consistent and also always injured.
 
If there wasn’t world cup this year, and he puts in a stellar performance in the final, would that get him 2nd balon dor?
