Marc Casadó (paid by Barca at Depor)

I really don’t get the point of including a 30 million buy option for a guy who’s going out on loan while we’re covering most of his wages. WTF.

Okay, I understand that it’s better for us and him to play, prove himself, and avoid his value dropping, but I don’t understand why we’re doing them a favor if they’re not even taking on his wages.
The 30 million buy option isn't worth the paper it's written on.

Deportivo don't have 30 million to pay. If he ends up doing well enough that he is worth 30m, he will most probably go to another club.

This is a dry loan for all intents and purposes.

Yeah, they probably won’t, but that’s not the point. What if he has a breakout season and plays the best season of his career, they qualify for the Champions League, and his value potentially rises to 40 million, they'll have the option to buy him for 30 million? It’s stupid.

Club can't force him to go, where he doesn't want to go. He's a Masia kid, bleeds barca, celebrated with the fans each LaLiga and always behaved well enough. No need for bad blood here.
If he wants to stay in Spain, then the club has to accept it. With luck he plays a good season there and we can sell him next summer then.
The problem is that he never told us he wants to stay in Spain, he didn't communicate anything until the last day. You think if he was available for loan earlier, that most of Laliga wouldn't offer to take him?

If he told us he wanted to stay in Spain or the top5 leagues, we could have found a better deal for him much earlier.

This shitty deal is because he waited so long that teams have already filled their vacancies and don't need to pay for him.

People gotta respect his decision even if it fucks us over. He wants to stay in a relevant footballing League. Hes still very young, so it might be the best for his career.

He owes us nothing.

He could have made this decision a long time ago.

He likely would have gotten a better offer financially and sporting-wise, and we might have gotten some better terms or even some money out of it.

He's an idiot.

He could have done that long before though. For a loan with part of salary, we could have found him a better club than Deportivo months ago.

He himself probably lost better options because he waited until the last day to communicate what he wanted, for some reason.

By this time, after having taken his number and put him in the stands, it was too late to find a good deal, most clubs have already filled their positions.

Don’t think there was genuine interest in him. He needed the pressure of the end of the window to get a Deal done. Mainly to force our hand offering a reduced deal.

It depends on the formulation but often the buy options don't necessitate a transfer if triggered.

Because it's optional it probably just means if they trigger it, we have to accept their offer, but it doesn't mean that he is obliged to accept unless a future contract has already been agreed.

If we somehow got 30m from Depor for him, I would be very happy. I honestly think this will lead to him being devalued. I don't think his stock will be higher after a season with a relegation team, I mean he has 75 Barcelona appearances.. We should have gotten a fee straight up for him.

Obviously, he can refuse, but that clause clearly makes no sense to me unless it’s an obligatory purchase option.

I don’t think they’ll be fighting to avoid relegation. They’ve put together a really solid squad for La Liga standards, and I genuinely believe they’ll qualify for Europe, quite easy.

Depor record transfer was 18 mil. 25 years ago. To believe Depor would somehow trigger the clause for Casado is beyond ludicrous.

Deco got played big time.

Why do you guys pretend you know anything about what was the agreement between Casado and Deco? Maybe Casado told Deco in January that he wants to play in Spain but Deco shopped him around the world anyway because everybody knows LL clubs can't pay anything? I'm just guessing (as you guys are too) but that seems much more believable than Casado negotiating with some arabs and pull out in the last second to go to Depor. You don't know shit, you are overrating yourselves.

My perspective:

1. Time to sell Casado was last summer when his value was higher, it has clearly decreased spending most of last season on the bench.

2. we never received a 30m offer from Saudis, the most we probably got was around 20m so we were holding out for more until late in the window. Just a speculation ofc, we'll never know the truth but it's pretty much irrelevant what offers from that part of the world we got as

3. Casado refused going to SA or Turkey anyway and there is not much club could do about that. We can't point a gun to his head to accept moving somewhere he doesn't want to go. Transfer windows in these leagues are still open so if he'd have any interest in those offers we could have still negotiate a move there in coming days not settle for a loan to Depor.

4. His preference was either a move to the EPL (but their clubs likely saw him as physically too weak to play there so while they were asking about his availability there was no serious offer) or a team that plays in European competitions.

5. I think he wanted to go to Leverkusen at the end but they failed to sell their former captain Andrich who refused to leave (we are not the only club to deal with these type of players) so had no room for him. No idea under what conditions they would consider him but so late in TW probably a loan with buy option as well (and while Leverkusen would be more realistically expected to trigger 30m option there is no guarantee they would do that either) but at least they would likely pay his full wages.

5. If none of the above mentioned scenarios was possible then he ofc prefered to stay in La Liga and he saw Depor as the best club mostly based on their other moves this transfer window and good start of the season. It wasn't his goal to go to Deportivo or another LL club two months ago, it was just the best remaining option for him yesterday. So while I do believe we counted on getting a big money (not as big as reported or as we wanted though) for him this summer and his refusal going to SA screwed our plans a bit I don't believe he intentionally wanted to damage the club. He was just looking for his best own interest like all players and clubs always do. But ofc fans often don't see things this way.

6. Buy options included in the contracts are usually set a bit higher as all parties are aware they are unlikely to be triggered. Especially when we are talking about last-minute deals.

Deportivo Abanca did spend almost 30m on the market this summer though and they've not sold Yeremay yet. Still, them spending 30m on a single player let alone someone of Casado's abilities is almost impossible. So I see this move more as an attempt to keep up his market value for next summer. We couldn't give them a 10m buy option hoping they would trigger it so we get rid off him and then set a 20m asking price for other clubs when they wouldn't trigger that anyway. You set initial asking price high and then lower it if nobody bites.

7. I've seen someone mention a possibility of him having a great season and Depor qualifying for the CL and then Casado's value increasing to 40m. That's almost impossible so something you just take a risk with a player like Casado. It's not like we are talking about a 18 year old kid with high potential who could explode at any moment and get PL teams crazy about him.

But even in that unlikely case we would still get more for him than what we realistically could this summer. And if Depor would actually increase his value that much then that's their credit and they would deserve to get whatever extra money they could for him.

Obviously, even in this scenario Casado would be under no obligation to actually sign for Deportivo as he would likely have offers from better clubs and then we would have to start negotiate with them again from point zero. And having a 30m initial price that other club was willing to pay for would help us a lot.
