There are rumors that FC Barcelona are interested in him. He is a generational talent, the youngest Croatian international, and he has been outstanding this season for Hamburger SV.

Just see what can happen if Spurs get relegated. This guy looks good but right now we need to be adding some prime players to the squad

He is on a loan anyway. Doubt Spurs getting relegated would impact his future.

What I am more fascinated to see is what Van de Ven would do. I wouldn't mind him here if he is at a reasonable price.

I keep waiting for us to come up with names of players from B-C level clubs, clubs from Belgium, Netherlands, lower level German sides other than Bayern, Dortmund, South American teams, or whatever. Anyone that is not hot in the papers and would only come with a hefty price tag of 50-60m+.

It seems we are just not very good at identifying such players. After some player gets signed by a more recognizable, bigger club, our interest goes up.

I don't have to say how annoying this is for us. I see this Vuksovic cost 11m from Hajduk in 2025. Just 1 year ago. How come we are linked with him heavily after a super rich club got to him?

Sorry but this is nowhere near good enough.

Its not that easy.

Top clubs are almost all aware of same players. Any player identified and valued from South America etc will have plenty clubs after them and often wont see Barca as ideal move for playing time and money could get elsehwere.

Still have been signing players from Denmark, Brazil, Germany, other Spanish clubs, relegation level EPL teams etc.

Barca wont take punts as much as other clubs will due to money and also how much the model relies on La Masia.

I assumed this would be the answer. It would help convince them if we don't do stupid stuff like bringing up "first you move to Barca B" arguments. I'm sure we do just that.

Of course all of them would be hesitant to sign if you don't signal to them that we want him for the first team, and to play right away.

Its not just that it is about how much playing time even if in first team squad.

What team are you looking at as ideal for these type of signings?

Barca wont take players from those league into first team much due to La Masia and not many other top teams either.

Barca also cant afford really to buy players to send on loan.

Added to that is Barca most likely look at age of squad and believe they need experience to come in at times rather than a punt on a young plyer from Belgium or Netherlands.

We have good scouting for players in the 10-15 years old bracket for La Masia but horrible for older ones. The only real great discovery was Pedri and even in his case we signed him after Madrid rejected him and his father probably already had some contacts in the club.

We haven't really adapted imo to make the difference between raw-ish younger player we will have no issues signing for Barca B, and more higher-tier ones who already draw attention from bigger clubs.

Those can't be signed neither on the cheap for 1-5m, nor for B sides, they will have more options, they will demand prices closer to 10-15m if not more in some cases, and we are not judging properly their quality.

Many of the current top CBs were not long ago, good 10-20m deals for clubs like Dortmund, Eintracht, some Jupiler league teams, some Dutch teams, or straight from South America.

We've done really poor attracting defensive talents of this caliber. What's the last defender we signed like this from outside of Spain? Dest? Laughable.

He could play for Milwall in 5 years for all we know, but in his current situation(young prospect loaned from a Premier League side) he's probably worth 60-80 million... I've read that he's somewhat similar to Hummels

That fee for Vuskovic was agreed with Hajduk when he was 16y old. In the meantime, Tottenham arranged loan spells for him in Poland and Belgium. However, transfer was officially executed when he turned 18 this summer.

Pedri was unbelievable find and fact Real couldnt see it makes him a better find not worse to see what others couldnt.

Barca have found plenty decent value signings across the years but it isnt easy and this idea that other top clubs are doing it all the time? What clubs?
