Karim Adeyemi

I don't know what to think about this transfer. To me, it only makes sense in one of these three scenarios:
  1. Raphinha is leaving
  2. We're not signing a striker, so Ferran and Gordon will rotate up front
  3. We're in a great financial position and want two top-quality options for every attacking position
Maybe we'll end up signing a center-back as well, but it doesn't seem like that's the direction we're heading. Araujo doesn't look like he's leaving, Christensen has extended his contract, Cancelo is coming, which would give us five center-backs.

Still planning to according to Romano. Very surprising transfer. Maybe there is really more to it that Rapha is leaving. Or Flick doesn't trust his fitness anymore after last season and this WC. Or he plans to use Lamine on the #10 next season. But then what to do with Olmo and Fermin.

I do find it odd as well. We were linked to him years ago before going to BVB and I remember being disappointed at the time but he sure has flattered to deceive since. Niko Kovac, his club coach, has been very open about his shortcomings. While calling him a "great lad," Kovac said he lacks the necessary bite and needs to believe in himself more . He's been described as someone who needs to work on precision, attention to detail, and taking training more seriously

That professionalism or lack thereof is concerning, irrespective of the off field controversy he had. Flick apparently knows player well enough but you have to wonder how good an eye Flick has for talent in the market as we don't really have any evidence of how keen he is in this regard as he has primarily promoted from within. His notable 'failure' was with Sarr at BM but player ended up with a lot of injuries

We can see what he covets, high pressure & speed from his attacking players and Karim would tick that box...certainly would be a more capable backup to Lamine than Roony - which btw would seal his exit

Worst case if this comes about and he does not pan out is to flip a young player in the market in a year or 2...we'll see
 
I mean this guy is 100mil transfer if he plays season of 80% what he can do.

I am all over for this transfer, it will be cheap and we can hit jackpot.

We finnaly will have 2 speed monsters on wing.
 
Main reason Nagelsmann didn't call him up to NT was due to reduced minutes at BVB due to contract, off-field issues and perceived lack of professionalism

Is the idea to resurrect a marginalized talent? It's a roll of the dice but could pay big dividends, hopefully if it were to fail it would not be too costly

Don't think this signing would indicate Raphi is leaving for sure. At least not this summer but we are clearly preparing for him to leave next year imo (but that was with the Gordon signing not the potential Adeyemi one). With Roony expected to leave we would still only have four players for three attacking positions (not counting Fermin who has also played as LW).

out: Lewa, Rashford, Roony
in: Alvarez?, Gordon, Adeyemi?

The biggest question is whom is he replacing?

Is it Raphinha leaving, so he is replacing Rashford while Gordon replaced Raphinha? That's a massive downgrade IMHO.

Is he a Roony replacement? Someone Flick trusts to take minutes from Lamine so he can rest? That's a massive upgrade.

Is he a Torres replacement? The Spaniard is out of contract in a year, Adeyami played mostly as CF according to TM. That's a solid deal tbf, a little downgrade but solid.

Is he an indirect Lewa replacement? Torres starter and Karim backup? Not ideal but acceptable considering the market.

This, and the cost are the ones that will give us enough info on how good of a deal this is.
 
Interesting, i like it. Wanted him a lot years ago when we first got linked to him before going to BVB. He didn't really become WC but fits the profile Flick wants.



I think this either means Rapha is leaving or we gave up on Alvarez. If this closes for around 40 mil (no rumors about the fee yet?) I am ok with it. It's probably our last transfer too, I gave up on defenders.



I know how he plays with the ball but how is his pressing/defense?
 
Do you all remember what happens every year, Rapinha and Yamal get overplayed and we didn't win CL last season, because we could not rest them against anyone.

Look PSG, attack they have a lot of options, we need to have same thing here.

Alvarez/Ferran, Rapinha/Gordon and Yamal/Adeyemi we have best attack in the world.

Just one great CB and we are cooking this season on max.

The problem is, Adeyemi won't be satisfied with Roony's minutes, so if Flick convinced him, then he presented him a role he was okay with. But how many minutes can he get behind Lamine on the RW?

He doesn't have that potential. Reading through Dortmund fans' comments, they're not too sad him leaving. According to their comments his negative traits are:

- not consistent enough, having good and bad phases

- only exceptional trait is speed and not that kind Gordon has. He doesn't press like a pitbull, he's just fast counter-attacking. More like Rashford, just with a better workrate. In terms of workrate, somewhere between Rashford and Gordon I assume. Maybe Hansi can improve him there. Finish and 1v1 are okayish - underwhelming.

- wasn't a protagonist in last season, Kovac didn't really need him either, only played 1800 minutes under him. The season prior he had 2400 minutes despite 2,5 months injury.

- some comments say he has some potential and Kovac's system didn't allow him to shine, others say he failed to do the next step after his transfer to Dortmund.

- Dortmund wasn't that keen of extending with him because of his high salary demands.


In addition my personal impression aside from his sporting value:

He was very present in the German boulevard media lately with his rapper girlfriend. And not in a good way, more in an annoying way. Not an attitude we want to see at Barca. I expect this to get worse once he plays for us, because his popularity and followers will rise much more wearing Barca's colors.

On paper he can cover all attacking positions but Flick probably has a plan for him in his mind. We definitely need squad depth for rotation though. Both Raphi and Yamal had injury problems last season and players will also be tired after the WC so more injuries could happen this season. I think signing someone who hasn't played in the WC could benefit us from that perspective. If we close the deal soon he should also be ready to start the preseason next week (though at the start he'll mostly play with the kids) and adapt to the club early.

As said I think he can theoretically cover all attacking positions (unlike Roony) so he should def get minutes. If Flick really wants him then I believe he has a plan for him.

There are some legit concerns you pointed out in the rest of your post I agree with but he deserves a fair chance.
