So Barca won't have a single targetman on the books?

Flick's style of play suits a traditional targetman. Look at his career without Lewandowski. He was crying out for a good targetman in the German NT job when he had the very mobile Werner as striker.
 
Did Laporta sell the club to the Saudis or something? Where is the money coming from, all of a sudden we will have a 250m summer in terms of spending?

I'm not complaining btw, even if we don't move on defenders despite all the evidence suggesting we should :lol:.

He wouldnt know what to do with himself if Barca signed Alvarez... cant call him shite or praise him when does well.

I am also a bit worried about lack of height in attack.

And hope Atleti don't fleece us. At this point I wouldn't sign Julian but if it's more than 90m fixed I will be very disappointed.

I'm worried about height in defending set pieces more. We need a defender with power and height that is not a clown like Araujo to fix this.

90m is what they paid for him, so prepare to be disappointed. If we really really want him, and we have the money, it will be a sum that will annoy fans.

75m fixed on a 6 year contract, so he will be 50m on their books + 20m add-ons which I don't think have been paid in full. Him really wanting to move is the key here but maybe it is cancelled out by them considering us a direct rival. 90m would be fair imo as he hasn't really set the world on fire stat wise this season.

You guys don't have any players who are strong in the air. Even your CBs are mid.

Flick's Bayern had so many players strong in the air.

Even Enrique's PSG have a few players who are great in the air.
 
Joan Garcia helps a lot and particularly with way set pieces are currently being put into 6yd box.

Garcia is one of best in world coming out for balls.

It is same reason City fucked off Ederson for Donnaruma. They saw way it was going.

Barca will lack height but also if Alvarez did sign there and lack too much of it can be remedied in future.

There isnt an obvious big CF that would bring more than Alvarez.

Osihmen..but no big club seems to want to go near.
 
Tactically, Flick's vertical, direct and fast style of play (compared to the typical Barca DNA style) requires a strong focal point.

You can't play a vertical style with players running in behind without a capable focal point up top. There will be no fulcrum for the runs in behind. And if you play with a false 9, you have to build up a lot slower in possession and your style of play has to be about control rather than chaos which Flickball thrives in.

Not a single Barca attacker can play with their back to goal.

With the squad building here, you'd think that Barca are moving towards more of a Luis Enrique style of play but I'm not sure Flick has the skillset to coach a Lucho system. Completely different managers with different strengths.

I'm really curious to see how Flick changes the tactical setup next season.

Lewa couldnt play with his back to goal either.

Constantly dived to try and win fouls or lost the ball.

His threat in box is what is lost but Barca also did well without him under Flick.
 
Poor ragebait.

Prime Lewandowski is literally one of the best players ever with his back to goal. He also won a lot of direct long balls from goalkicks (even during his Barca stint). Was always well known for his holdup play. And going down and winning fouls with back to goal is good holdup play. Drogba did that all the time.
 
Lewa was poor with back to goal for Barca in last few years.

Dont care what he was like in his prime.

Was constantly getting outmuscled and losing ball or throwing himself to the ground... often referees not giving fouls as could see right through it.
 
If we sign Alvarez and a CB (any CB really, just with some experience and not an absolute bum) this is the best squad in the world. With one of best managers in the world. And best player in the world.
 
I think we will score more goals if we have fast and hard pressing strikers who make runs when our midfield with Lamine dish out those through balls instead of relying one tall striker to beat few defenders in a box for a header. Obviously in a perfect world we could have a striker who can do all of those things but it is what is.

Alvarez is also great in tight spaces in penalty area so I think it’s fine if we focus less on scoring headers and just being dangerous as hell when we have to ball close to the goal. Too many times Lewa or Ferran got the ball in the penalty area and they just ended up losing the ball.
 
Which is why big Victor would be a better fit, but no big club seems interested.

I'm guessing he's that loco or will want the bag no matter where he goes.
 
Historically speaking we don't need a battering ram as a striker. Our best performers in that position were agile, lethal finishers who exploit channels and combine well with wingers or 10s, because we always had monsters at 10/wing.

Not that I'm against getting Osimhen or Haaland over Alvarez, if it comes to that.
 
If we have the funds to make it work, then don't hesitate.

We have fucked up royaly in the past with big money deals, but the profile of the players we got burnt on is totally different than players like Gordon and Alvarez.

Every big money deal we make is not going to be Coutinho 2.0, if we properly evaluate the players we bring in not only on technical level, but also in terms of their personalities. You need to be tough to cope with the pressure.
 
Alvarez certainly auditioned for the position with his performances in Cup/CL. Pressed like a mad dog while on the field.
