Would you sign Alvarez?

150m is crazy valuation indeed. We should put a cap of 100m to the transfers we make. In reality Alvarez is worth 65-75m, in a normal performance-based market.

I can understand paying a premium of 25-30m in today's market over that, especially when dealing with a domestic rival with a chip on their shoulder like AM, but paying double what he is worth puts insane pressure on Alvarez being a huge hit.

At 150m he can no longer be a solid member of the team, he has to be one of the best 5-6 players in the world. We don't have money poured in the club at will from sheiks, emirs, or american billionaire owners. We need to be very responsible about the deals we make.

There's 4-5 players in the world that are maybe worth 150m today, and Alvarez is not one of them.

So please, don't get crazy with it. Final offer of 100m fixed + 20m pending upon reaching individual and team objective-oriented bonuses. I'd happy pay those 20m if he's a hit. Take it or leave it. If it's rejected, move on.

He hasn't been great at Atletico and is much worse for Argentina. Just look at Mbappe, dude is like 10 times the player Alvarez will ever become. Alvarez is a 70m player and he's also the wrong profile to be our 9.

Great comparison dude 😂

Mbappe is all time great footballer. I don't think it's a big shame he's not at his level

But if he can bring his own quality and add pressing, running, tracking back, defending, versatility... he will be a striker with which we can go on Mbappe and Madrid without any shame

Not sure Flicks wants him to play as a pure 9.

No. Up there with Klose as WC scorer. Due to great team he had/has.

Noone watches football regularly and "enjoys" Mbappe football. Or Ronaldo football.

One enjoyed Maradona, Ronaldinho and Messi. Those were the all time greats. Along with Pele, Zidane, Cruyff, etc.

By this logic Cristiano is not all timer either

We both know that is not true

He's not. He's a one trick pony. One of the best goalscorers though.
Look I wish that is how football worked. But we know it doesn't

You score 2 pens in a big game like Mbappe did and already you're bigger than a lot of guys who are 10 times better than you at football

So, what's your point? People's perception on who belongs to all time greats varies.

For example, easily proven Ronaldo's popularity is bigger in non-footballing countries and among elementary school kids that don't really watch entire matches and couldn't have watched. But they've seen the stats and number of CLs. Also looking for a "hero" or masculine role model to follow. Not to mention the shallow egoism that resonates to them on that infantile level. Mbappe falls in that category easily too. Most kids out there dream to be worshipped and be the boss. Be the scorer. All about me. Noone wants to be a small autistic guy like Messi.

Takes a bit of intelligence and finesse to appreciate the game beyond the stats.

For 150m Alvarez should be close to Mbappe, but he is closer to Pau Víctor.

€150m is absolute madness, especially for a player who might not even be the ideal long-term successor to Lewandowski. For €100m, we could trigger the release clauses of Mikel Oyarzabal (€75m) and Alejandro Espí (€25m), giving us a front three rotation of Raphinha/Gordon, Oyarzabal/Espí, and Yamal/Ferran. We’d strengthen our attack add far more tactical flexibility and depth, and still save €50m instead of putting everything into one €150m signing.

75mil for Oyarzabal is worse then 150mil for Alvarez

He is having a really bad world cup. Maybe the thing with Atletico is having an effect on him mentally

But he is a top player and still should be our top target. Of course nothing above 130m
