Would you sign Alvarez?

If atleti flip Alvarez for Victor and cuti, it would be a hell of a deal for them.

They would be stupid not to do it.

You're getting a better traditional striker and a defender to improve what is a very underwhelming set of CBs for atleti ball.

Would feel very comfortable if Barca made those two signings, but Alvarez is who the coach wants. Which is different to the coutinho and cardioman deals that were just forced deals by barto.

Remains to be seen if trusting Flick regarding players is the right approach though. I prefer a sporting director that makes his own deals also. Not just sing to the manager's tune. Doesn't mean you don't listen to the manager also.

Not seeing that. Deco is loading the team with wingers and attacking midfielders and I don't see anthing being done in defense.

I prefer a more balanced squad.

What point are you trying to make?

Flick has too much control and these signings led by him?

I get what you are saying but having a sporting director who just signed players for the manager didn't work out well for us.

The best window we've had In years is when xavi and the sporting director worked together.

Similar situation seems to be happening now, where they first go for the player flick prefers then and alternative of any is available.

I think flick is pretty much in charge of all first team signings and deco signs the project players like Jesse

That window with Xavi could have been money spent a lot more effectively.

Amaral is the one it is said who is going out trying to identify opportunities on younger players.

There will be input on all and Flick does not have free rein.

Where you do or don't believe that. It's pretty obvious that is the best transfer window the club has had in God know how long.

Point being the coach input needs to be highly valued.

The ideal of the sporting director and basically president just signing players didn't work out well for us.

Now where flick has an eye for talent is something up for debate, Bayern fans certainly weren't impressed with his picks, but he's smart and should have learn from that experience.

Flicks point of view will be taken on board but others also,

Unless get to point of being a Pep or Klopp then the club will always have a lot of input.

I dont think any of these signings have been ones Deco disagrees with or it is Flick leading charge for Alvarez while others unsure.

They are mostly all on same page on these bigger deals and Flick understand some of the limitations.

Flick is clever and knows how to play the game. He is not in position to take on board if doesnt agree either or make it public.

Not as emotional as Xavi and more measured.

That's whats happening now and the correct way.

He's not a klopp figure at Barcelona yet. But his opinion is clearly very highly valued as to what we should sign and that is the correct way to do it, within limits.

Flick indicated the kind of players he wants (fast, aggressive, intense in pressing, etc.) for winger and forward position.
Deco came up with Gordon and Adeyemi, Flick agreed, then they moved forward with the transfer.
That's what happened, and happens in many clubs

Besides, there are transfers like Bisiwu or Salinas (if it takes place) which are 100% Deco's with no Flick involvement.
The problem is not Flick's involvement. The problem is that we might need a better professional than Deco in the SD role

On the contrary, when Xavi was around, he handpicked every transfer, and Jordi Cryuff acted like a yesman to Xavi without opinion of his own
The fact that we made Xavi our de facto SD in the only window we could buy (levers) was one of the biggest, if not the biggest, mistake of Laporta's tenure so far. We wasted market opportunities and overpaid without strategic vision to the future.

Flick without a shadow of a doubt hand picked adeyemi or Gordon most likely both. And I'm not even using that as a criticism. They could work out well.

Much like deco is largely responsible for Jesse.

The club are not letting Flick hand pick players and they will on be on same page as near on every top club are about needing to have multiple pacey and versatile options up top.

Teams are not daft and seeing what is gives to PSG/Bayern etc.

Bisiwu the same.. not a Deco 'pick' they will have realised need more of these pacey options up top coming through also and picked up him on a database most likely and scouted then deciding to make move.

Also by identfying the type of players market wants it adds on value of being able to sell on if doesnt progress to first team.

It is Amaral who has been given the job of working on those type of signing and identifying players to the SD.

Deco (with Amaral as you say) picked Bisiwu, because he is mainly developmental signing or a bet for the future.
That's not to say they ignored Flick. More that his input was not needed so much, contrary to Gordon and Adeyemi who will play many minutes

No shit the club knew they needed wingers. They've been saying that for two summers now.

And after putting together a list, flick is the one who said Gordon and adeyami. Who largely was just a market opportunity. Ticks a lot of boxes and is relatively cheap.

Amaral has nothing to do with this summer signings youth or otherwise Irreverent name

Some of us said Barca needed more pacey 1v1 players 5 years ago.

Barca didnt sign one until got Rashford on loan.. did manage to lose one who went on to win CL back to back and a balondor though.

Alas the club realised eventually.

Flick has input. The club dont blindly agree to his choices.

Amaral is involved with Bisiwu and other players Barca brought in January and will be looking for similar going forward.

I think we should really be thankful to Flick regarding the kind of profile wingers we are getting now compared to years prior. We always went for the winger/10 hybrid, slow, technical and not compatible with Messi, so guys like Arda, Denis, Coutinho, Greizmann and other bums. Finally we play with real wingers and attackers, we haven't seen that since early Pep years. If it was all up to the club we would bring Baena or some shit like that to play LW.

Glad we're not making the same mistake with Yamal that we did with Messi. Rapha, Gordon, Adeyemi are all very compatible with Yamal.

It is not just Flick it is a general realisation about how they were caught behind the curve a bit by likes of PSG squad make up.

Barca have not signed nearly enough pace and 1v1 players in years.

Folk clapped happy with a mid 30s striker who couldnt run and thought club were correct to put 150m on it for 4 years.

While claiming did well in Dembele situation to get 50m.

To be fair Xavi rated Dembele. It was the board that majorly fucked that one up.

Again with Bumsi the guru worshipping.

Dembele, Trincao, Raphinha were probably playing hockey.

Barca, one of the biggest clubs in the world, playing attacking entertaining football for most of its existence needed Bumsi to teach them how to play or do transfers.

Dembele is the only one except Neymar that fit into this category of fast dribbling winger in the last decade and a half until Flick came here.

We lost that with Valverde, Koeman and even Xavi. You don't remember the slow boring football? The "left wingers" who couldn't dribble or beat anyone with pace? The formations without any width and wingers? "Winger" Messi on the right side, Cou/Greiz/Arda on the other while Suarez who couldn't move between them? Fun times, glad it's over (except the Messi part of course).

Jamstradavmus with another amazing prediction that having fast attackers who can dribble increases a team's chances of winning football matches.

Oh Highlander, please give us some more wisdom. How about tensions in the middle east to continue until at least early September? :tata:
