Hey so no Argentina striker is mobile enough except maybe aguero

Lautaro is mobile, his problem is mental.

Julian is off form.

Higuaín scored goals but choked when it mattered.

South American qualifiers are notoriously low-scoring and intense/defensive.

If Lukaku was Argentinian, he finishes his NT career with Higuain’s tally, maybe +10-15 goals. In Europe, he has 93 goals.

He's a terrible, terrible fit with Lamine.

He need runners in behind and Alvarez is not that.

Agreed. He is also not a traditional 9 like Lewa/Haland to play with his back to goal. We must go for one elite 9 of which only Haland and Kane belong to atm. Thats why I was keen on getting elite wingers and compromise on a good enogh 9 for now, until one worldclass emerges.

I still believe he is worth 100m. But probably shouldn’t go higher than that. Interesting to see the fallout if we don’t get him after asking him to make a statement out loud that he prefers a transfer. That puts the player in pretty shitty situtation due to fans, teammates and Simeone knowing he isn’t fully committed to Atletico.

In his defense, all strikers in Argentinian NT always look ass. I don't know why they can't perform the same way they do at their clubs. Lautaro, Alvarez, Higuain, even Aguero if I remember correctly was way worse when wearing this shirt. That's why Messi needs to carry their asses even with 39.
It's truly pathetic with their quality they show in league football. They need a coach who can fit them in. Scaloni isn't it either.

He (and the rest of the team + Scaloni) did much better in the last WC.

Alvarez is a good player. There is no question about it.

But if you are going to build your team around a certain player you NEED to surround him with good fits. We surrounded Messi with false 9/second striker types and slow wingers that needed the ball at their feet.

Lamine plays differently obviously, wider, but one of his super powers per se are his great passes to players running in behind and his lethal crosses.

Alvarez neither runs in behind like a proper #9 nor is he great attacking high crosses for obvious reasons.

It is NOT a question about quality. It is a question about the right fit. If you are going to build your team around Lamine Yamal you need to surround him with players to maximize his skillset.

And you cannot spend 100m+ million on a player based on hope. A hope that he can do the things mentioned.

Spending massive amounts of money on hope or projection based on little evidence kills you as a team.

I'm not saying we should buy him, but judging a player based on international tournaments isn't the way to go. If that were the case, James Rodriguez would be the GOAT and the same would apply to Ochoa for goalkeepers.

This transfer is already a Special Olympics Sporting Department Classic and we haven't even signed him yet.

How do we offer 100m for a guy that scored 8 league goals last season, including suffering a massive goal drought in the middle of the season, is having a terrible World Cup and who has come out and said he wants to leave and play for us AND YET ATLETICO ARE THE ONES WHO HAVE US BY THE BALLS IN THE TRANSFER NEGOTIATIONS.

Just tell them 100m is the final offer, give them a deadline of July 31st, or let him stay there and stink up the place like Nico did at Bilbao.

Some good points but that's not how Flick thinks. He wants a high pressuring team and that's why we signed Gordon and why we want Alvarez. He wants to replicate what worked in the first season but with even more pressure. Whether we get Alvarez or someone else it should definitely be upgrade over old legs Lewa from that perspective and Gordon will also be a huge ugprade over lazy Rashford from last season if/when Raphinha is unavailable - and tbf with his recent injury problems Gordon could take his spot away sooner or later.

This could actually work against teams that won't be afraid to play against us but we'll struggle vs teams defending in low block. We know that's how Atleti will play and with Mou now at Madrid they'll also park a double bus we'll have problems to break and they've also bought some defenders who can actually defend (unlike last summer) so we'll mostly depend on Lamine staying fit and producing some magic again.

Other teams in La Liga (even if they don't have enough quality to defend for full 90 minutes without making mistakes) usually also don't play open football like Flick is used to from the Bayernliga. He caught opponents by surprise in his first season here but most teams already adapted last season and will furtherly do so this year.

Flick will also ignore defense (so people who want us to make a big splashy CB signing will be disappointed; I would honestly be surprised if we will actually sign any defender besides Cancelo who can hardly be called a defender anyway, lol) because he believes our defensive record will improve automatically with better pressing upfront.

I don't agree with or hope you're right, but it's a good post about how Flick/Deco might perceive it.

I just wished we would go after a different profile that could also press and provide that as well as some danger vs. low blocks. Would be disappointed if we don't sign a better CB than what we have bar Cubarsi.

Noooooo. You just know AM will take us to the cleaners for this transfer. I really think we are better off broke. 80 million on Gordon is questionable but 125 million plus on Alvarez is pure insanity.
How many goals has he scored at the World Cup? How many did he score last season?

I'd honestly much rather go for Osimhen - Alvarez will be an even worse fit than Greasman, ya'll wish we had Lewa back...
20 goals in all competitions 25/26 playing for the third best team in LL and reaching semifinals in CL + he's been absolut shit this WC - and they want 150m?
