Would you sign Alvarez?

Deco: Julian Alvarez now belongs to the past. We must look to the future and focus on the players we have at our disposal. I hope he's doing well and that he can help his club. In the end, that's how it is. A lot of negotiations and contracts don't come to fruition.

I hope his career goes well at the end. Now he should join Arsenal in January. But I don't know if he will be able to recover the same passion and determination he had. All of this was hard mentally on him.

We can now only dream of how devastating the Rapha - Alvarez - Lamine trio would be.

Get that money into the defense now. When we sort that out, we will likely still need to sign a forward.

Told ya'll...

Well that's the least surprising news of the day.

I like that we don't go back for a player the 2nd time under this board.

The ship comes once, jump on or you're done.

Fucking retarded barto would have gone back in and paid 200m

Wonder what Alvarez is going to do now, he burned all bridges just for the move to not happen and for us to lose interest in September. That’s tough for him but it is what it is

He'd like rather stay in Madrid than got back to UK?
He would have long apologized and reconciled by now, if that were the case. Also people taking Deco by his words didn't learn from the summer, did they?
The club tried it with public pressure and Marin blocked completely. Now they'll try mending the contacts in behind closed doors negotiations. How is it not obvious. Doesn't mean it will happen, but they know now public comments about Julian won't help the case.

Also Atletico is in a worse position now than they were in summer. They have an unhappy player who doesn't reconcile, who is hated by the fans, who plays without his heart and big impact and who's marketvalue is dropping fast. That's not how you lead a professional club longterm.

Spending 120m-150m on a player who needs certain conditions to perform well isn't a player we should blindly be focusing on.

Conditions: Manager, environment, tactics, style of play. When a player is that expensive, he needs to be... consistent. 🤭

Fact is, he's capable of performing well, but has also been been inconsistent to such a degree that his high price tag is unwarranted. Just because the striker market is scarce doesn't mean that overpaying for fragile and inconsistent players is good business.

Finally, banking on Flick to turn it around for him doesn't take into account that our next manager is more likely to be of the Valverde, Koeman, Xavi caliber than not. We're one managerial appointment away from Xavi-ball 2.0.

The truth is that it won't only be us who doesn't want to pay 120m for him by the end of this season.

He's just come off a league season of 8 goals. If he has another season like that, nobody will want to pay 120m for him, from any club. They will be lucky to get what they paid. His value was mainly based on projected ability rather than what he's shown at Atletico, but that goodwill can run out fast if you are not performing.

I still reckon teams would take a punt on him but both him and Atletico will have to settle for much less than they could have gotten had they agreed a transfer this window.

A lose-lose for all parties involved. Atletico keep an unhappy, overpriced and underperforming player for another season, who they could have collected 120m for... whilst Alvarez's options will tank because he also refused the Arsenal deal. We were also left without a conventional striker.

You're dying on the hill that we'll pursue him again and that he'd be good for us? Cool...

Yeah but he was "world class" one season long long time ago, remember? It doesn't matter that he sucked last season, sucked at the WC, is benched now and sucks when he comes on - he's still an AMAZING player, perfect for us and well worth 120m, capisce?
Also, I don't think we "lost" - we dodged another Griezman...

Maybe it's about time we never do business with them again. Twice we sent them world class players on a cheap and they won La Liga with them. Every time we buy from them it's a fucking scrub... and on top of that they acted up during the summer. Nah, fuck em!

Ironic how our FFP disadvantage is saving us from buying these expensive and inconsistent players who have it in them to underperform under pressure.

Silver linings can be a beautiful thing. 😏

No, I just explain simple logic from the point of view of the club. And how would I know if he'd be good or not? I just tell you the arguments the club thinks he'll be good. That's a difference.

Just look at the open spaces Raphinha had in these 7 games and tell me Alvarez wouldn't have got 5-8 goals minimum.
