The quality of the pressing has been poor for three years now. At this point, I’m starting to have doubts about Flick’s ability to set up a high-quality pressing system. Yes, he makes the players run and work off the ball, but does he actually teach them how to do it against different opponents?

This is honestly getting ridiculous. Opponents aren’t even breaking Barcelona’s press through the wings — they’re fucking playing straight through the CENTER of the pitch.

Usually, you set up your pressing structure to force the opponent towards the touchlines. That’s what Liverpool did, for example, and then Alba would just sit there crying. The probability of the opponent successfully playing out through those areas is low, although of course it’s still possible.

But in Barcelona’s matches, opponents are consistently breaking the press straight through the middle.

You probably forgot that before Flick the pressing was way more problematic and the team faced serious fitness issues, they couldn't keep running past the 60-70 minute.

He fixed a lot of things in 2 seasons.
 
Lamine doesn't press that much so of course there are flaws in pressing. You see Raphinha chasing 2 players at a time.

It's not perfect but I was happy with the team working hard.
 
I can understand people hating on players, or on the board. But if there is one person who doesn't deserve any hate, that is Flick. The guy transformed the clubs fortune when they appointed him. Just look how many players were considered bums before he came, and what were the expectations for the squad.
 
First goal was on Koundé and Christensen could have also done better.

Denying chances by pressing 90 minutes like maniacs is nearly impossible. At some phases you also have to be able to rely on the individual quality of the players. Unfortunately, backline is still lacking most in that department.

That’s a very good argument. We spent two years learning how to run, and we’ll spend another 2–3 years learning how to press in an organized way. And in 2030, we’ll win the Champions League.

You're being unfair to Flick.

He developed the players and given the terrible management we have, he did the best he could, spending just 90 million over two years.

The issue for me is not what is happening now, but what will happen in the future when Flick decides to leave and whether the team will be completely burnt out.

I wouldn't want to see the team suffer the same fate as Dortmund and Liverpool during Klopp's final season.
 
Barca's pressing is best in Europe. Problem last two seasons is we had walking corpses like Ferran and Lewa in attack who press like retired players in charity games.
 
We have stop being critical of every play and ever goal that goes in. That's why I stop posting here during the match and on the chat. If annoying AF.

It's flick ball we are going to concede goals, it goes with the territory.

The question will become, what will he and the players have learnt over to the last two seasons to apply going forward to ensure we aren't dumped out of the CL again playing like teenagers for the 3rd year running.

Pressing is a red flag.

The bigger red flag I've seen so far is the 433 we try to play when rodri comes on. If we play it exactly like we've done in the last two games against better teams we will get our asses handed to us. Too many wide open spaces in Midfield.

But it's only watch day 3.
 
A summer where we were supposed to be able to spend, with glaring issues when last season ended.

We are solving ST with Rapha, but we bought a very subpar and injured player in Jesus. I am not happy, but its atleast somehting, since we upgraded our Attack with Gordon & Adeyemi,

LCB & RB, we literally didn't get any upgrades. We lost a player in our defence, but we still dint get a CB.

I am not expecting us to do anything in the UCL. It simply cant happen with the personnel in defence that we have.

GGs Flick, winning a UCL was not written with you, because of the unambitious boards and fans.

Regarding the gung ho approach employed by Flick's Barca for the full 90 minutes, there was a sequence of play last night that got me thinking.
As you may remember in the last 15-20 minutes of the game both teams were having chances, like trying to outcounter each other. But in one of those counters the ball was received by Rodri who either tried to slow play down or made some gesture to his teammates to get in position for some sideways passing(can't remember exactly which one was it). Him coming from two slower possession teams in City and Spain was probably surprising that we were trying to trade blows with Rayo. And I think he will either try to introduce some calmness into our team when needed or end up having not much of an impact or better said, not the impact we expect, because our team just doesn't know or want to control games.
So this wishful thinking, from many in here about Rodri helping our defense might not bare the expected outcome.

Rodri will have to adapt that is for sure.
But if there is one Single Pivot player who can do that that is Rodri. Him adapting enables us to do more with the ball.

But lets see how it goes. He is still adapting. And we have enough players who are intelligent enough to adapt to him.

Good point. If we use him thinking he is gonna be a pressing machine, we have no idea what type of player we signed.

We have to adapt to him. He achieved more than any of our midfielders and we need to learn to use him well. If we think we're gonna make him this superfit fast player at 30 who is gonna press players left and right we made a mistake.

The idea is to use Rodri to regain control.
