Diaz is a very good player but there is also big risk paying a high fee and giving a player a big wage when will be on that contract into their early 30s.

It is probably the reason Liverpool wouldnt give him the wage he wanted and Bayern had him further down the list.

Gnabry wasnt having the best season of his career by a country mile and them moved position either.

By that logic could argue just put Diaz AM as hasnt played there much either but worked for others.

Barca never nearly signed Nico at all and Nico most likely got it right that Barca couldnt have.

It took injuries to MATS, Inigo leaving for free and making a bad deal on Trincao that allowed Rashford to be signed for a lot less FFP space.
 
It doesn't matter if we couldn't sign Nico for financial reasons. The club and Flick were all on board with Nico Williams coming, meaning they thought they can make it work on team chemistry level.

Had we been able to sign Diaz, we'd probably be getting ready to face Arsenal in a few days.

He was never nearly signed and the club are also politicians on what they claim can and want to do.

More 1v1 players 100% is needed but to move Raphinha to AM when just had by far best season of his career and expect him to perform in position never has doesnt make all that much sense.

Folk love to assume top players can play anywhere.

Seen some amount of shite on here about Raphinha at CF also.
 
This is why people who moan of Flick's super offensive football and high line are still in the past.

Look at this game. This is the present and future of football. Nobody gives a damn fuck about "control" or "defending" anymore.
 
PSG and Bayern are a blueprint for all the delusionals out there on what Hansi can build if we back him until the end.

These are teams that simply have more physicality and evenly distributed quality in their side. You look at the 22 players on both sides and each of them is a player who you can absolutely trust at the top level.

No players who were in 3rd division a year ago like Martin. No players who are absent mentally like Kounde and Balde. No spoiled footballers like Rashford. No players who still haven't mastered the basics like Ferran.

Technical, physical excellence. Willingness to sacrifice and work for the team with huge intensity. Mentality and composure in key moments. This is the demand.

We have a lot of this in our team. Yamal, Pedri, Frenkie, Raphinha, Cubarsi, Fermin, Eric, Joan... these are all players who meet these standards. We need to fill in the missing pieces and trust Flick from there.

You cannot control games vs elite opponents without all time great players on the ball like Messi, Xavi, Iniesta, Busquets. It is just not possible. That's a one and done thing. Without being able to attack and control the game at the same time... this is the next best thing, what PSG is playing today. Fast offensive football with quick transitions. Similar to Lucho Barcelona in 2014-15.

We are 4-5 players from joining PSG at the top imo. A top class forward, a faster central midfielder with better physicality, a top CB and a fullback or two.

What matters is we have a good approach and we just need to add the missing pieces and tweak 2-3 things tactically to elevate the team to the next level. While keeping the same main framework we have used for the past 2 seasons.

If you are going to use yesterday's game as validation for flick, which I don't know how anyone makes that leap when we are sitting at home now.

But it that's the case, you also have to accept that having physical fast defenders doesn't make up for tactics that leave them exposed & the keeper exposed in order to run up the score sheet.

So maybe just maybe the our defender's aren't the primary fault, they are a second order effect the tactics.
 
Folk realise what Flicks football leaves the midfield and defence exposed to and comment on individual performances within that.

Bayern full backs were shit yesterday also in particular.

It is the same with the attacking players.. folk realise how 'inflated' their stats can be in comparison to more balanced approach as Flick gives up a lot in other areas to try and outscore teams.

No, it was not great football. It was good attacking but absolutely SHITE defending. Just like Flick would be coaching both teams.

Fine to watch as a neutral but I don't want my team to play like that all the time. One or two games like this in the league are ok but not when it matters the most because you can't always count your attack will score 3 or 4 against serious opponents and a 5-4 win can easily turn into a 4-0 loss.

Another difference is we were conceding 4 goals against Inter fielding a bunch of semi-retired players not vs a top team like PSG/Bayern. If we would play either of those teams this season we would probably see the repeat of 8-2.
 
Absolutely no chance would be anything like 8-2 game if all Barca players fit. Would be close ties against either.

They have the advantage of more 1v1 players which would probably swing in their favour but Barca are not nearly as far off as made out.

Of course they both have the advantage of being in less competitive leagues but not going to take that as major excuse if Barca are too scared to rest Pedri/Yamal at home to Espanyol either.
 
What happened to the great defences and defenders of the past?Nowadays no modern team can really shut down a game after a lead. It seems to be a lost art.
Funny how all the Lucho lovers have become so defensive after PSG concede 4 goals at home.
