Ferran Torres

These clauses and the catastrophic renewal of Dembele (allowing him to leave 1 year later for essentially half of the - ridiculously low - 50m clause) made me question my appreciation of Allemany until then...

He either got played, he is dumb or I don't know what...
In any case, they are terrible pieces of business

Maybe he’ll even win the Champions League with PSG, but honestly, I couldn’t give less of a fuck because he’s playing in a farmers’ league and he’s a mediocre player. He didn’t deserve to be here in the first place. He belongs there, where they win the league at 20% effort and just focus on the Champions League. A mediocre player went to an even more pathetic club.

Many, including me, expected Ferran to become the next superstar back then.

Sounds like a bad business now, but was a glimmer of hope back in 2022.

That is irrelevant.
As the post above says, including clauses about whether a player renews or paying fees if he is sold above an amount is odd and against transfer practices.
As is allowing a player to leave by paying only half of the existing clause...

Doesn't sound plausible.

2021 deal
Barca will pay an initial £46.3m (€55m) plus a further £8.4m (€10m) in add-ons for the forward. Some £5.9m (€7m) of those add-ons are said to be more or less guaranteed.

UNLESS

Perhaps the renewal clause is the add-on clause, while the sell-on clause activates if we don't activate the renewal clause, as a sort of fail safe for City.

In the end, if true, then Defleco played a blinder (which is probably what the press want us to believe when the Rodri fee is released) and if true, means City will get the money back through Rodri and give us no favours.

Which would make more sense.

It's not a terrible clause. It costs us a bit now, but if he would have been a success it would have been irrelevant. Now we sell him slightly below market value...

The most bizarre piece of PR I've seen for a while. Doesn't even make sense. How does a clause at 55m explain why they sold him for 7m lower than the clause?

And we are in negotiations with City for Rodders. Couldn't we have said we would make the 10m difference in valuation by selling Ferran for more than 55m and paying them that way with the clause. They may have accepted or negotiated a percentage of the clause we could use.

This coming out straight away smacks of them knowing they have sold him cheap and nothing more.

I am not sure man.
Julian Alvarez was available the same winter for 30m from River Plate.
Our incompetent Sporting structure did not locate him at all, and got outfoxed by City's shrewd directors...
Julian was unproved at that point in January 2022.

Laporta and Alemany needed a big name transfer for Xavi's new project at that point.

I'm probably wrong. But my deduction above is that, the sell-on clause only activates if City don't receive the instalment on us renewing Ferran.

It's all a bit silly and farfetched though. Ale-Money could easily go come clean and wash his hands if it's not true though.

Cm'on
Ferran was also unproven.
He was playing for City, yes, but he wasn't a starter and he had a lot of things to prove as well.

The big name Xavi and Laporta were looking for come in the summer (Lewandowski)

I never rated him for Valencia, but his transfer here has been fairly successful. We just didn't hit a jackpot (like Alvarez would have been). Hindsight is 20/20.

It wasn't the summer period, it was the winter of 2021/22, right after Messi left and Koeman got sacked.

Ferran wasn't the greatest of names, but his form was promising after a good Euro 2021 campaign under Lucho.

I meant that the really big name they wanted was Lewa, which happened later with the levers.

That winter we were in no position to bring a big name and they knew that.
But we had that 55m sum to spend on 1 signing, and we could have been much more clever with it

Now apparently ferran torres was a big name
the lengths y'all will go to defend clownery is insane. we had two chances to get alvarez but chose not to and ended up with a fraud instead

It was a desperate move on the market. Correct me if I'm wrong, but Alemany brought Auba and Traore in the same period.

All in all it was experiment.
