Ferran wasn't so much F9 though, he stayed high and attacked the box as the reference point. The false 9, as a term, would be one who drops behind the other forwards and constructs from midfield. Ferran was closer to a 'number 9' although those terms don't match perfectly. He has converted over time. Both aren't true strikers, though.
Niether is Ferran, who was a wing whom we transformed into CF/false 9, just like Sociedad did with Oyarzabal.
If anything, those names suggest we don't need those B tier strikers.
That was correct around a decade and half ago, now it is the opposite. A more direct team does better with false 9 (winger) as they interchangeable and more fluid, that is one of the reasons Ferran (a false 9) was suited for Flick system better than Xavi's. Ancelotti did great with Bellingham being false 9 after Benzema departure, and he was far from possession system.
And Flick might even take a chance on Tunkara as backup false 9 - that's also a possibility...For all the alleged media negativity and journalists hungry for attention, I haven't seen anyone raising a question why there was no planning for Lewa exit.
Or.. it's all just a pr stunt and decision has been made to bolster wings and rotate at false 9. Would justify why we let Ferran go too and explains my theory we were never serious about Alvarez. Laporta just shootimg for impossible to keep Barca relevant. And it kinda works.

And Flick might even take a chance on Tunkara as backup false 9 - that's also a possibility...
Ok sure, we'll rotate the players we got at false 9 - see who does the job best, that's alright and might work. But I'm more worried if Cubarsi gets injured, than we'll be counting on Christensen who's been more injured than able to play for us - THAN we are in deep shit.
As for the 9, work with what we have and sign Panichelli in the winter window if he heels up alright.
Worst case scenario, another Rashy loan![]()
He was also the best threat AGAINST usCB position od precarious. And also... People forget we lost 2 of our best heading players. Lewa was regularly instrumental at our defensive corners. Araujo was our best threat in the air.

PSG under Lucho and Spain NT proved everyone you don't need a tank/tractor to succeed. Team pace and stamina wins.
The classic CF role could become obsolete, exclusive to Haaland and Mbappe, only in few years.
Yeah, sure, but I don't think Flick will bring in Harry Kane now just for the sake of German style. This is a new challenge for him, matter of fact we're chasing a midget false 9 in Alvarez.Spanish managers play less direct than German ones. Longer possessions, getting the false 9 involved more in build-up... it's different than German style. If you want to look at Bayern Munich they had big 9s for the majority of their successful eras, starting with Janker in early 00s, to Mandzukic, to Lewa, now Kane.
