We started this Mercato with a requirement for
- A decent #9
- A decent LCB or CB
- A decent Fullback (Cancelo not counting)

15 more days to go, and we still haven't gotten a single player for any of this.

Very simplistic view.

Our attack was Ferran, Raph and Yamal. Attackers were obviously needed (on top of a 9). Fullback was never ever a priority. Just wishful thinking because people don't like Kounde. CB would have been nice, yeah, but DM as well.

#9 is the key transfer and I will judge the window accordingly. Deco still has two weeks though.
 
Wasting your whole window for your main transfer target on a player whose club made it categorically clear from DAY ONE he was not for sale, and repeated it many times subsequently is already a ' L ' for me.

With 2 weeks left before the start of the season, most big clubs shut up shop on their players they don't want to leave as they don't have time for any replacements. This inflates fees across the board and as such, very few significant transfers happen then, it's mainly clubs picking up scraps from here and there that they think can give them a little extra.

The Sporting Department have backed themselves into a corner where they are either going to get a player clearly not good enough for Barca or gloss up how Gordon and Adeyimi were bought to replace Ferran and Lewa ( Already begun. )

Remarkably, those that think the Sporting Department are doing a good job will praise them and say there were no other options, but that is not the truth at all and they shouldn't escape criticism their atrocious planning.
 
Don't think that Alvarez timeline is too bad. The WC obviously delayed things. We will see if the club has any alternatives if we don't get him, which looks likely (but you can bet the transfer will pick up once more).

I am not arguing the sporting department is doing a good job though, that remains to be seen. Rodri, Adeyemi, Gordon, Cancelo and a #9 (even if just Ferran class) would be a heck of a window though.

Ferran wasn't even counted on with a 38 yr old Lewa in the team. Ferran was always a backup. We were always in for a #9.

Fullback probably is wishful thinking to you, but a lot of people including me, wanted one since the 2025 mercato, and we have been vindicated. So it's been two years

CB was needed when Inigo left. Its 2026, and we still have no concrete rumours of anyone.

Take 2 out of it, as Deco will be celebrating his Birthday at the end of August.

I still haven't heard a real alternative to Alvarez... best people can offer is Osimhen, who's a shitshow in his own right.

how would that be a heck of a window when we've lost ferran and lewa at the same time. and we already had a Cancelo last year and he's older now. Overall, all we would've done is improve our midfield. nothing impressive at all.

Don't think the club ever considered signing a RB... you generally don't cast aside a player after one mediocre season. Not sure why you feel vindicated. We also look inwards I guess. Espart had quite the preseason so far.

Also if Ferran wasn't counted on then our forward situation was even more dire and Gordon/Adeyemi were crucial. That certainly deserves some praise.

this "no other alternatives excuse" is pathetic. we knew lewa was leaving this year and had no concrete plans to replace him. other clubs manage to find good strikers but its only good ol' barca that needs to chase alvarez for months.

Pedro is the name everyone jumps too ffs lol.
If he's the only player we missed out on by fumble the bag last summer.

I will sleep happily with that miss and I rate Pedro I'm pretty sure I said he's the kind of player the club should be signing before he moves to a bigger club, when Chelsea signed him.

But still if he's the big miss. We missed nothing.

The real big miss is isak, if he clicks he's gonna be WC, but we didn't have 120m to spend at that point.
 
always with more excuse why a barca sd should have no expectations. after all, he's just as clueless with no resources as us forum members.

I think even Laporta should fire his drinking buddy mongoloid if he doesnt get a striker, CB or Rodri. Enough is enough, we are in the middle of August and all we got are two wingers, this is beyond pathetic. He can still turn it around if he at least gets 2 out of those 3 but wouldn't bet on it.
 
The strategy if they were to go the whole PSG route of 3 wingers in front 3 , should have been to go for a cheap low risk tall target man striker, as a plan B option, which ironically is what PSG had already showed them with Gonzalo Ramos.

That option was stating us in the face and his name was Carlos Espi. The rest of the ' Alvarez ' money should then have been used to firm up the back 4.

That's what competent Sporting Departments do. They don't just say ' There are no strikers available, I'm off on holiday. ' They adapt to making the team more of a sum of the parts rather than relying on extreme individual quality.

Rodri is a start, but is more a case of what occured to Frenkie rather than a reverting to a sum of the parts strategy.

Therefore, an elite defender AND a target man centre forward are required for the window to be somewhat of a success. Relying on Martin when you have 120m Alvarez money burning a hole in your pocket is not going to cut it.

I think Adeyemi is Ferran's replacement. They bought him knowing that Ferran might leave.
Hits two birds with one stone. Yamal backup & ST backup
