CL Quarter Final 2nd leg: Atletico - Barca 1-2

In the end it's four big decisions and all of them go their way. Still pretty annoyed with it tbh. Can accept those sending offs but then you have to call both pens.

Hard to swallow if Real get by Bayern true, but would rather see Atleti out on their arse.

Forever chasing the promised land, never arriving. It's clear that CL isn’t just about squad quality, it’s about fortune, matchday planning, ref's attitude and rhythm, often more than anything else. We have a squad capable of winning it when everything clicks, but problem is it never does. Inter has no business beating Barca across two legs and even reaching CL finals, nor does Real in winning 2 in last 5 years.. yet they do. Signing this or that player will not solve any problem if the stars are not aligning at that particular point in time.

On the bad side of things, I don't think we improved anything in CL this season compared to the last one. We even regressed a bit, so this is for sure something to be slightly worried about.

We were better last season for the sole reason of Lewa being 1 year younger, having Inigo, and having Raphina in key matches.
It's just that and nothing else

If the team improves next season, it will be because of a difference maker in defense and one in attack.
Not because Flick will change his style and 'care for the defence'

This is stupid stuff honestly, repeated all over the last 2 years in here
the football will stay the same, it's high-risk, high-reward.
If you don't like it, there are other teams to watch
Personally, I would not want us to play like Arsenal and 'care for the defense'
From the top teams, only PSG seems to have defensive stability without sacrificing the attack. But they play totally different football

No, I'm with Flick until the end. But I will always criticize him when he fucks up. That's all there is to it.

He's the architect of this team, the creator of this football, and he has full creative control. Whether or not it will be proven to be a failure or not in CL, well, he's a grown man and knows the risks.

For me, not an issue, under current situation, to go with him on this journey.

If this was a different Barca squad, with better players, better depth, more leaders, not as many raw kids, and we defended like that under him, I'd want him sacked no doubt. But it isn't.

A fuck up is a wrong sub, a wrong choice who to start to rotate, etc.

His whole tactical idea is not a 'fuckup'. It's just how he sees football and plays.

Once you understand that, you will stop whining about the defence.

That's semantics. When he makes errors, there. Like when he subbed two players who were still active and put in two dead hands.

His tactical ideas are under scrutiny, constantly. They are only worth supporting if they are proven to be the right ones. So far in CL, not been the case. But we go forward, hoping things will change for us. And him.

If not, it will still be a successful story, riddled with plenty of titles big, medium, and small, and that's always important.

Was most likely a penalty on Olmo, a correct red card for Garcia, and no pen on Fermin situation (just bad luck). You can add the refs as extra help AM had in the tie, on top of the gifts from us.

A CB like Saliba and an alternative DM/CM profile to the current crop would improve Barça defensively, and help stop counter attacks.

In the past, Barça had Yaya, Keita, Mascherano and Vidal as more physical options in midfield.
Saliba will be absolutely destroyed being asked to defend DOGSO situations every match.

We weren't playing suicide high line offside trap.

We had a 3 second rule, press high and hard win the ball, if we dont win the ball within those seconds we drop deep and defend our lines.

Flick ball is not similar to Barcelona total football style. Barcelona football is positional mainly, Flick is all about pressing everything in sight, often at the expense of a cohesive and controlling shape.

It's like the difference between a cake with whip cream on top vs a huge dollop of whip cream with just bits of cake in it.

Bayern is crashing out tonight unfortunately.

Upamecano or somebody else will gift them something.

You say it as if it's somewhat of a shocker. Totally open tie with chances both ways going into 2nd leg.

Last win by Bayern at home to RM is in 2012, IIRC.

I am just amazed at how people think madrid will get thrashed.

UCL doesnt work like that
