Cesc Fàbregas

The pride of Italy, Como. Tiny club, tiny stadium, practically zero Italians in squad, billionaire investors - do they really become a 'thing'? It can never generate enough matchday revenue to meet FFP on a long-term basis. Plus, Como has virtually zero academy pipeline to consider much less fanbase to speak of

All Cesc & their ownership group have proven is that with money and a good coach/philosophy, you can build something impressive - sustaining it, different story

They are investing a lot into their academy as well but will obviously take time for their homegrown kids to breakthrough.

They have around about the same population diaspora as Villarreal, so they can probably build a strong academy system with their backing.

It's a billionaire toy, no one in Como cares about football and that stadium is barely a stadium - they are very much stuck in terms of stadium improvements to warrant VIP revenue stream. The city is very adamant about preserving the city's identity and owners are attempting to buy their way to city agreement - it is not going to be an easy issue. Certainly long-term prospects, again, improbable

It will not be an easy to navigate a battle between the Italian community's passion for the cultural history and billionaire investment plans

Meanwhile, there are no Italians really to speak of in the club

Good luck

I wouldn’t mind him to be our manager but at the condition he joins a slightly smaller club like Arsenal for example.

Watch the whole podcast. His results speak for themselves though.
I don't need to do that, whole podcast. Consensus here is Cesc's star is on the rise, but this clip is telling me some retarded picture. Cesc has to explain football to an owner.

I assume that's part of Cesc's duties since he's also a minority stakeholder at Como.

It doesn't work like that, Cesc has his own life and career, he's not just waiting for Barca. He actually said he's not even taking managing Madrid off the table, he's not the most loyal cule ever to do that. Lucho should be the first choice anyway, Cesc second. Both would be a good choice but prefer Flick staying for many years if he continues the good work he is doing.
Lucho is also my preferred Flick successor even though I'm not big fan of second stints. Lucho did it all with Barca so question remains if he has the desire and passion to elevate us further.

With Cesc it's almost fairy tale esque potential in the sense that he failed as a player here based on all the hopes that he would be the perfect homegrown player to lead our midfield for many years.
Now he will have another chance to leave a big lasting mark at his childhood club, but rather as a coach.

Or he will show once again that Barca is too big for him. The hype is certainly, or will be, at the same level as when he joined as player. It's the same story of taking over from a successful predecessor. Sky high expectations.

It could be but sometimes it turns out different as we saw with Xavi who did a good job but far from Pep 2.0 many expected. You never know until it happens. Speaking of Pep, I don't think it's impossible even he could be in the conversation even though I know what he's been saying for 15 years about his return. If he would ever return it would be in the next few years, it all depends on if he wants to deal with Barca's etorno and media or prefers peace in retirement or some less stressful job as he had in City. Otherwise it would make sense for him now that his buddy Laporta is here, the team is great and young, finances are improving, he could live at home, he fulfilled his wish in managing in other leagues... Still prefer Flick staying and probably Lucho too but it's not as impossible as was 5 years ago IMO.

In any case we have much better future options and current manager than a few years ago. Any of Flick, Lucho, Pep and Cesc would be great. Could be adding Busi to the list in a few years.

Como playing Brighton/Brentford/Bournemouth in Italy is smart, but it's not the huge win that is being talked about as they are playing moneyball with tobacco money in a league where no one else can.

But it's a good level for Cesc to develop in peace, now they even play Champions League. I could even see them winning the scudetto if everything goes well with the state Serie A top clubs are in.

Like thestig said it's still a good environment for Cesc to develop in. From Serie B to CL, he is getting it all. The only thing he will most likely lack is deep runs in CL. He has those from his playing days however but it's always different as coach as we could see with Xavi.

Even if Como would be nowhere near where they are without money, they are doing it on players that require pretty excessive scouting as they can't just pick and choose the biggest names. And then you have Cesc making it all work. It's different than buying the hottest prospects like PSG and City can do, and move on to the next if they fail.

Como benefits from a Moneyball approach to scouting but make no mistake, no money no way Como does what they are doing atm - Cesc or not

I don’t think it takes anything away from the job Fabregas has been doing because Como play great but money is a big part of it and the fact that they are fairly limited in terms of FFP due to very little matchday revenue stream, they will have to sportswash their sponsors in order to sustain it

Again, I don’t believe this is a sustainable model in Como - anyone who has been will understand

Not really true anymore, there is money in the league.

Inter, Milan, Juve, Roma and even Fiorentina have all spend over 100m this summer.

No matter the money getting Como to CL and playing best football in Italy in such a short period is an impressive achievement

It's not like he has some world class squad. He bought a number of carefully selected talents and developed them himself. Some veterans next to them and it works so well now.
