Bernardo Silva

Honestly, Gundogan had 5 goals and 9 assists that season, Pedri still hasn't gotten those numbers yet for us in the League.

Gundogan also created the most chances in La Liga that season (97), which is a record high for a Barca midfielder since Xavi in 2009/10, so that is a great claim. His legs have definitely given up now, though

Gundogan was decent but his legs were not there at Barca and he slowed down as season went on.

He was playing very advanced and getting a ton of touches in and around the box and also on set pieces and at times penalties.

Getting 5 goals and 9 assists from that was not all that amazing.

It was clear as day he had to go and paying far too much for him.

Somebody here claimed Foden is Pep's favourite and will be City's main guy for years to come

Turns out he's Cherki's sub and out of the England squad now

Comedy Central
That would be Phll Foden who won league with City while voted best player in England.

Pep loved him and Foden drop off in form was felt a lot in past couple seasons.

Calma Rahul.

He had 19 goal contributions that season.

I doubt any of our current Midfielder have done much better than that since.

Easily our best Midfielder that season.

And also one of our best players period that season.

If he stayed another year would have been the same.

Then after than he would start to fall off due to age.

But he wasn't brought in to give us more than 2-3 seasons if he stayed.

B.silva is getting into our XI one way or the other he's too versatile and too good. Would end the season as one of the players who got the most minutes and most starts easily.

He had already started to fall off and legs were going.

Was the Barca player with most touches in final third and still had quality on ball but defensively his legs were showing. That and being on set pieces led to decent number of chances created.

Legs were clearly not the same in the Euros that summer either or when went back to City.

As was said at time when folk laughed at those who said he needed to go having him and Lewa in team was far too much to cover for off the ball.

Club agreed and made the correct call 100%.

Barca midfielders have easily been better since. Many.

I think he was the best midfielder when he was here. I know his legs gave up later, but creating 97 chances is massive, even when we had Messi; his top numbers are 93 in 2015/16, so for that, you've got to give him his flowers as it's not easy getting those numbers, regardless of how many touches you have around the box.

Over a third of the chances created were from set pieces and he did still have quality on the ball.

Pedri for example had far better chances creation from open play last season despite being deeper.

Gundogan was by far the worst midfielder defensively when at Barca.. he averaged less than 1 tackle a game and somehow managed to get dribbled past about as often as made a tackle.

The club freed him and moved on to City while still paying some of his wage for good reason and were proven completely correct.

Messi stats are misleading as they ignore all the chances he created for himself while scoring more goals than anyone else. It is daft to even compare those stats.

Barca more or less gave whole attack up to Gundogan with player who did nothing defensively and would have most touches in final third and on set pieces.. it failed.

Was any of Raphinha, Lewa or any other thriving with that attack? No they didnt and team were worse off defensively when had two old players in mid 30s who couldnt cope to top level defensively.

Kind of transfer Barca could have made. Slow, way past his prime, small and a player literally not needed. Thank God! First time in a while, RM did our business.

We have midfielders waiting for their minutes already.

This one wasn't a necessity. We should be more interested in trying to hijack the Dumfries deal.

Güler must be delighted. From getting an important role and a good season back to the bench. And he already complained when he was subbed early. Camavinga will also get the rotation role. This all screams harmony. But they probably find some idiot PL club to pay 80m for Camavinga.

I was telling the same thing. Not needed player in any capacity for either of these clubs. But Barca does these kind of business while RM goes for prime WC midfielder or the absolute no 1 in their position by age. We have been saved ironically by RM this time 🤣

I hope we get to snatch Guler if he leaves RM but I doubt it. He is Perez’s darling and would only suffer max during Mou’s time whose expiration date is always before the contract ends.

Don't mind missing on him but I have a feeling that, like every year, we will be chasing Alvarez and miss everyone and then panic buy on the last week.
Silva was not a must but he could have played in Pedri, Olmo/Fermin and even Yamal position.

He's definitely needed by Madrid; you'll see his impact in no time
