Bernardo Silva

Like I said, our midfield depth is overrated.

For the pivot positions, behind Frenkie and Pedri the only seasoned player who can fill in their shoes reliably in a big game is Gavi. And he has been struggling with injuries for 3 seasons, no guarantees he won't again and that it won't take him time to recover.

Bernal is great but he has a lot to learn and should be developing slowly rather than being rushed with big minutes like Yamal and Cubarsi.

About others I won't even speak. Casado, Olmo, Eric... in a big game, disaster for us.

Because our Midfield Depth has been a disaster for us so far right?.

A man goes down, someone else comes in and week keep on ticking. Even against better teams.

Midfield is the least of our worries. May a loooooooong way

Olmo was very good in many games he started as CM, Eric not great on CM (or CB for that matter) lately though. Bernal has been decent and Gavi is just back. But Silva would give us another option for sure - but if Yamal would be injured in an important CL game I would start Silva on RW, we need the creativity on RW. But again, Silva being able to play CM, CAM and RW is a HUGE bonus and gives us so many options if somebody is injured or out of form or whatever...

PS almost every big game we've lost over the last few years Pedri & de jong have been starters.

In others at the very least available to come off the bench.

We still lost.

PSG
Inter
Etc

That's why we need a 9, CB and fullback + Silva haha - and sell some deadwood like Casado, Roony and Balde (and hopefully replace Kounde, dude has been bad this season - but probably won't happen). But we also need Flick to make a couple of tweaks, doesn't matter if we had prime Suarez and Maldini if we play that high line with only 2 CB's and the rest in the opponents penalty box lol.

I don't think we have been "ticking" very well in absence of Pedri this season or last. Even if we win our general play is usually garbage in those games.

And in absence of Frenkie against Atleti, Pedri couldn't control the midfield alone and got destroyed in both legs.

We surely have bigger priorities, but Silva being a free agent and a guaranteed massive boost to our midfield depth is maybe not a bad option to consider.

The Win, loss record tells its own story that's steaped in a thing called facts.

But like I said we've had the both available for almost every big game and still lost over the the last few years.

Atleti isn't the team anyone should be calling for our strongest Xi to beat.

He would give us so many options... Injury on Olmo and Raphinha - move Fermin to LW and play Silva as CAM. Injury on Yamal - play Silva on RW. Injury on Pedri and one of Bernal/Gavi - play Silva with Frenkie.

Sounds like we need 5 players for the XI lol

We'll end up with Tuna as our main 9 and maybe a cheap backup like Muriqi. Selling Casado, Roony and maybe Balde. Getting Cancelo and Silva on a free and loan Rashy another season. Christiansen and Ara as our "new" CB signings...

I'm not sure how you can make that argument after looking at just how much Yamal and Cubarsi have improved in 2 years.

All the managers say it, the thing that young players in their formative years as adult professionals (18-22) need the most is gametime. Cannot improve if you don't play. Training is different.

Bernal at his age needs to play at least 60-90 mins every week. If he can't, need to think about loaning him out. Luckily, with the number of injuries and competitions we have, that is achievable.

I'm not against Bernardo as agree he would add a ton of quality and depth at several positions. Different case to Gundogan who was washed.

Imo great option for 2-3 seasons to cover RW, CAM and CM.
He played only 4 games this season at RW for City. He doesn't have the pace for it anymore. Especially in Flick's set-up, the RW needs to be a 1v1 threat out wide to pin the defense.

Think Flick will use him at double pivot and CAM at most.

Our first choice is Yamal of course, he'll start most of the games. In LL most teams will sit back anyway, Silva type of winger is actually better suited than the Rashford type. He still has legs for 2 seasons as rotation player, but if we'll have a long term injury on Yamal I'd be worried about Silva playing week in and week out especially second part of the season. As long as he does well next season it'll give us time to think about our RW choices for 2028 season and we can focus on a 9, CB and hopefully a fullback this summer.
Silva is by no means ideal, but he's great player that can cover 3 positions and with tons of experience on a free - as long as he doesn't ask for crazy wages he's a no brainer. We have to be realistic, not like we can sign Dembele as backup for Yamal...

There is no way Silva as wide player is more suited to Flick than a Rashford type and wouldnt be reason signed.

He cant play winger. Plays as AM wide at times that can move well and is intelligent but if he does that Barca do not have 1v1 player in team unless Yamal was at AM and makes no sense to have those two that way round.

Raphinha would play RW ahead of Silva if both at club.

What's with the rumours regarding him to Barca ?

Weren't there big rumours of him joining us like 2-3 years ago and most people said at the time he's old and washed ?

Than get us a decent attacking RB, problem solved. Cancelo fucking own his left side, drops players with ease. Raphinha isn't a 1v1 player either... Stop it, Silva would be more than enough - not like we can shoe in a decent RW backup that's great at 1v1 this summer anyway.

Contract is up this summer, most rumors place him in Barca or Juve.
Washed? I think he's doing alright. I think he'll be motivated by joining us. He'll give us many options to rotate and move players around. He can cover RW even if he wouldn't be ideal, depends on how the left side is set up and who we have as RB. Some on the forum think he absolutely wouldn't be able to play RW for us and do an alright job, I disagree :)

Who is claiming Raphinha is a 1v1 player?

Silva is not a RW to cover for Yamal at all and team would have no 1v1 players if tried it.

Raphinha would play there ahead of Silva and while not a 1v1 player offers more for what a wide player Barca wants on right than Silva does.
