Never been a huge fan of the transfer, but some of you act like he'd done nothing with his career so far. He's been a starter for an EPL team playing in the CL and had solid numbers over the last three seasons: 17 goals + 5 assists in 46 games in season 25/26, 9 + 7 in 42 in 24/25, and 12 + 16 in 48 in 23/24. They did their homework, obviously, since they wanted a winger who could play off the ball. Doesn't mean it will work out or that their vision is the right one.

Villarreal paid 16 for Moleiro and is rated at 50. 42 was Baena. So to pay 40-60 for a winger in La Liga it needs to be overhyped as a big talent. Gordon is not and 20 is the more realistic number. Nobody will ever pay 50 for Gordon in La Liga except Deco maybe.

I'll say again that Primera is specific because clubs are by law obliged to include buyout clauses in players' contracts. So there will be some market opportunities, especially with first-career contracts, like it was the case with Moleiro.

By the way, Baena has scored 2 and assisted 3 in 46 matches for Atletico. And he went for 42.

Gordon wasn't brought for his talent, whatever that may be, but because they're counting on him to have a short-term impact and possibly step up, basically replicate Raphinha's trajectory. Another player who you wouldn't call talented per se yet proved to be a great success for us.
 
Going off league statistics as we only can, because he didn't play in Europe for Everton, Anthony Gordon has more g/a in his ONE season at Everton than in his TWO seasons put together at a better team ( Newcastle ) , where he was the main penalty taker.

That is a clear and undeniable REGRESSION if I ever saw one. Having watched him at Everton, I can categorically say hands down that Gordon, on the eye test, was a far better player at Everton than he ever was at Newcastle.

Therefore, his valuation should have been lower than what Newcastle paid for him, which was 45m. Now, if you factor in general football transfer inflation of around say 50 percent, you still only come up with a valuation of 50m, which is what I would describe as fair for his current level.

Contrasting with La Liga, there is a left winger you could have bought for said price of 50m WHO DOES EVERYTHING BETTER ON A FOOTBALL PITCH THAN GORDON, BAR THIS PERVERSE OBSESSION OF PRESSING, and his name is Abde.

The fact that we only overpayed for Gordon by 40 percent is not some sort of win because EPL clubs are overpaying by 70 percent. Foreign clubs are picking up players for reasonable prices all the time, not least our big rivals who paid 75m for Dumfries and Cucurella.
 
Why don't we wait 6-8 months to have an actual insight into the only thing that matters. How Flick will use him and how productive he can be in a side that beat his old team 7-2 recently.

I usually don't go for players that already play for us. Is not like Flick will read our opinions and all that drama lowers their resale value. That is a tabloid practice and their readers.

So I think it's more reasonable to state your opinion now.
 
Top-3 player for England today after Bellingham and Pickford. Still had energy after 100 minutes to make sprints, that kind of unlimited stamina will go far in a long season.
