8 - Pedri

He ain't doing much, but neither are others, the highly rated Vitinha and Joao Neves sucked just as much. This entire generation of midfielders is extremely weak and uninspiring compared to what was before. No wonder the team that has the best wingers wins.

Let's not kid ourselves, in the late 00s and early 10s gen of Xavi, Iniesta, Busi, Xabi Alonso, Fabregas, David Silva, he'd rub the bench and barely play. IF he made the squad.

His job is to improve and compete well with the best current players in his position. Forget all time great status, he doesn't even get close to that type of quality and never will.

You neurotics have no chill. Pedri is 23. Like Cuba and Yamal, he is still a baby. Modric was 27 when RM signed him and was voted flop transfer of the season who disappears in big games in 2012/2013. Only in his 30s he reached his reputation that he has now.

Jude is thrice the player he is and in no universe are they comparable. One looses the ball constantly and often even with unforced errors, mind you. Too much ball hogging, easily outmuscled, outrun and outpressed. If he doesn’t release ball on time, he literally has nothing to offer to the team. Literally none. I fucking hate to see our rivals scooping generational talent after genrational and we get impressed by La pausa against Laliga minnows and copa del rey farmers. Can’t touch Iniesta’s shoes. Should be benched and we need to buy 3 worldclass /potentially workdclass midfielders for the XI for the long run.
He isn't thrice the player but his mentality is 10x Pedri which counts a lot for the national team. Pedri is more talented but Bellingham has the ability to grab a game by the scruff of it's neck, not always pretty but very effective. Spain and Pedri have been poor but no reason to shit all over the guy.

As for this 'generational talent' tag, no. Currently, only Mbappe, Yamal and possibly Nuno Mendes deserve such a label. A few weeks ago we had people on here calling Diomande a generational talent..

You don't need him in a deeper position when you have Rodri, and the team isn't playing high-risk attacking football, like, let's say, Flick plays. It could be any other coach who plays more attacking football than this Spain team.

At this point, Rodri can do everything he does and is better defensively. It's not like playing with De Jong or whoever at Barcelona where he has to be their midfield daddy.

He looked better for Spain when Rodri was out or just coming back from injury.

This is why Ruiz partnered Rodri so well at the Euros; they have different skill sets. Ruiz isn't trying to kill you with a million passes; when he gets the ball, he looks to move it forward quickly and has a better physical profile, obviously.

His original play at the number 10 for Spain might be the best play.

When rodri retires you drop him back again, rodri doesn't need a Midfield daddy.

I don't think it's so much about the mentality as it is about box movement and final third ability.

Jude just has a sniff for goal. He scored two goals vs Mexico by being at right place at the right time.

If Pedri is to be moved forward on the pitch, his scoring and final pass numbers have to go up big time.

I agree jude has 10x the mentality but strongly disagree Pedri is more talented. Pedri only has better passing. Thats all. Watch his game yesterday vs mexico. He is far more press reaistant against a team that hounds in numbers and physically try to disposses you. He is a much superior ball carrier and dribbler, has better shots, far better headers and infintely better tackles. I don’t think even the best pivot of the game has his level of tackles (slide and standing both). He scored two yesterday and then made a game saving tackle at the end. Watch his highlights against Bayern away from this year. The team lost and he was still far and away the best midfielder (Olise played in the wings). These are just undisputable. On the top of that, he can’t be outmuscled just like Zizou and looked like the fittest person on the pitch with 10 man England at 1500m altitude.
I agree, generational talent is thrown very easily and I have been guilty of that too. There are potentially generational players. And then, there are actually of which Jude belongs to imo along with Yamal, Mbappe and Haland (yes because I do believe he is the Gerd Muller of this generation).

I already diagnosed why he's not playing as well as he does for Barcelona. End this conversation neow!

If Jude Bellingham is generational talent in football then with the same standards I can claim my floppy dick is generational talent in the bedroom.
Did you watch the game against Mexico? Which other midfielder from this generation has shown that level of game or come anywhere close to that? If we count Olise as a 10, then, yes. But he has mostly played in wings and come inside to help so far in his career. Jude is 23. Show me any midfielder of that age who has gone to dominate a game against one of the most inform team in WC at their home in the most difficult stadium altitude wise and atmosphere wise and come out top? Just show me. He has also been MOTM other two times already. He doesn’t have elite midfield as support btw. Workhorses mostly. He is what Pogba was supposed to be if he had Jude’s mentality. Or wasn’t Pogba a generational talent ? Or are we going to deny that since he flopped so hard because never cared/ had bad mentality etc etc? What makes him not generational and POTENTIALLY an all-time great?

He looks so feeble and slow. Also, the way refs are reffing this WC, his neat turns to draw a foul isn't going to work as often. Hate to say it but he should remain on the bench vs France.

Like saying here ruiz fits with rodri better so I'm not surprised he started, but I did think they would just push Pedri up to the 10.

Anyways the coach decide to go with the Midfield that won him the euros. Which makes sense

Him being slow is not really the problem. It's that he has started to do idiotic decisions like that unecasary dribble and few more. Also ignored opportunities to pass into box. Like his mind is not there at the moment. Spain generally has more control with him though. With the "dynamic" Ruiz, it was too chaotic and Spain constantly looked like conceding, because they suck at trying to do end to end football. Overall both Lamine and Pedri in bad shape, but i don't see who would be their alternatives.

Olmo is a better 10 than Pedri atm, and that has been clear for the past couple of years. Olmo was probably the best player today and maybe even Spain's best player in the KO.

I agree that Ruiz is a good fit for Rodri, and since Rodri is essentially the best midfielder they have, it is normal to build around him.

However, Pedri still needs to show more. His performance leaves a lot to be desired regardless of the position.

Del Bosque used Xavi as a 10 for many games in 2010 which was counterintuitive, and still Xavi made massive impact. Sure, that was the peak of a legend, but this is also the heights we are hoping Pedri would reach one day, by the same age bracket.

Something is wrong with Pedri in this world cup. I only hope he is not carrying a knock or something

He has regressed a little with that performance vs Atletico in CL and also now in World Cup

I expected no less than to see people making big statements and conclusions from this. Same people who called him best midfielder, what, couple months ago. But he will be fine and I'm sure he will be back soon

He has to start vs France. Spain didn't look any better with Ruiz on. I hope LDF doesn't have any stupid ideas

He has lost a yard of pace from 23. Thats why his idea of winning fouls doesn’t work anymore. He has no acceleration left that would leave the marker dead on his second touch anymore. It was the reason his spins worked wonders too. Now, he is just slow.
He needs to study Kroos’s game because his profie is very similar to him and not Xavi. But its very hard to be the best unless you have a massive engine and the ability to not get tired running 120 minutes up and down in modern games. The days of specialists are almost over if they are lacking in endurance and stamina, imo.

I noticed that his eye bags are gone. Maybe the problem is that he is sleeping a bit too well.

Need to get that GF outta there.
