8 - Pedri

PSG is now what Barca wishes they were. Used to be the other way around.

Haha, like what, owned by state of Qatar and playing in a Mickey Mouse league where the entire league and the other French teams are bending over for them? Having to wait for 7-8 months into the season to finally see my team start to play for something meaningful?

Please... would be a fucking bore. Under those conditions, they have a great side though, and are on a roll. When that roll starts to drop, they go back into mediocrity.

I'm talking more like team construction, coach, and yeah a little bit finances.

If anyone played below expectations yesterday, it was him. I am sure that all of us expected much more from him.

He needs players around him to help as every player going does.

This idea that he doesnt and always plays top regardless is bollocks.

Tried to do too much on his own recently as Eric, Gavi and Bernal lack in build up.

Pedri ends up trying to be the one getting ball and progressing it while also being the one in final third taking ball into contact to make things happen.

All that while Flick asks his deep midfield two to be two of the most defensively active players in that position in Europe.

It is too much.

Well said. His volume of duties is huge.

Clearly a mistake from Hansi to let him play 90 minutes vs Espanyol. Pedri didnt look tired but a bit slow sometimes, pretty sure a fresh Pedri would have played way better yesterday

He is 23. As a comparison: Xavi was 23 in the 2003 season, about 5 years away from his prime years.

Him, Cuba and Yamal will be monsters in the future, no doubt. Just let them develop and need to surround them with better players than Araujo, Rashford, Ferran, Koundé etc.

Xavi debuted under Van Gaal just as he was winning his 2 La Ligas. Then 6 barren years full of turmoil. He came through thick and thin before being recognized. Even missed the CL 2006 final due to injury, sadly. So first CL for him really was when he was 29.

In that season (2002-03), Xavi scored against Juventus in the CL quarter finals and equalised the tie for us. We had nothing to play for that season as I think we were in 8th or 7th, the only thing we had was the UCL. We did very well that season in the group stages and won 11/12 games in the 2 group stages. Then we faced Juventus, we had a good result in Turin with a 1-1 draw, second leg, we concede a brilliant goal by Nedved and then Xavi equalises, unfortunately we couldn’t do it and lost due to a Zalayeta goal in the 114th minute that led us to miss the Champions League for 1 year. Crazy times.

He has been clearly off form for a month or so and should have never started against Espanyol. Maybe a discomfort, maybe something else, who cares. This surely wasn't his best level.

its unfortunate that Frenkie got injured at such a crucial stage of the season. He takes so much pressure off Pedri in midfield, especially with ball progression, press resistance, and controlling the tempo. Without him, Pedri ends up having to drop deeper, carry more of the buildup, and still be expected to create higher up, which is a lot to ask consistently.

The actual unfortunate fact is that Bernal got injured. He was bringing something different than Frankie and Gavi. Apart from always scorring for some reason. He is not a done product or sure to become great, but I liked his presence in the mid.. I am telling you, the attempt at the Copa remontada doomed us.

If we didn't get the red card we get past Atleti very comfortably.. did copa remontada somehow cause Cubarsi to make that foul?

Maybe it did have a little effect on player fatigue but to say it doomed us, as it's one of the main factors, is surely going too far

Got 3 injuries in the process though
