6 - Gavi

Yikes what happen here.

Zenl needs to pay attention to games more, can't be doing that when you comment on every kick each player makes in the chat.

He was average like pretty much everyone else yesterday bar Joan. Even the goal scorers and contributors were average.

Lewa, rashford, fermin, Torres. But rashford gets a bump because of the WC cross. The other 3 gets a smaller bump.

Lewa gets the biggest credit, first the movement, then winning the duel with the defender, than the power header. It's a killer 9 goal. And also Joan for basically denying Osasuna any cheap goal. Rashford for the cross, Fermin for the nice pass, Ferran for scoring the one chance he got, plenty of players did well.

Midfielders weren't outstanding, but did their part to control the game and keep Osasuna at bay minus 2-3 chances that Joan dealt with. Plus some luck with that shot off the post by Budimir.

A good cross is nothing without the 9 making everything count. He even points to Rashford where he wants it. It's unfortunate Lewandowski is not 4-5 years younger. Would be the best no9 in the world.

That's fair. Let's just say WC cross from rashy and WC movement from lewa.

Pretty much. Lewandowski had a top game I felt. Ran a lot, despite his age, was on for the whole game. Even cleared the ball on corners, which btw is something we will miss with a smaller 9, and not to take very lightly.

We were pretty solid defensively, it's normal for Osasuna to create 2-3 chances. Our only real defensive fuck-up was when we thought the game was done.
 
Love his tenacity, workrate and pressing but he is a liability on the ball (so far). He needs to improve A LOT in this regard. Even Arthur was more incisive on the ball. Gavi is content with just recycling it.

Bernal came on and looked like Busquets and Iniesta in one compared to him.

I liked Gavi a lot today. Don't care what the rating apps say. He is just back from huge injury and he is asked to play games like this. He did great job. We all know his quality. He is more than capable on the ball

I didn’t post that because of the rating. Look at the pass map.

On your last point, he has shown nothing on the ball since his first season. Which was highlighted here time and time again.
 
He has never been a player that is particularly positive with the ball.

Plays it safe too much but still learning after Xavi used him as a runner.

Got skinned a fair bit tonight and players stepping away from him. Needs to watch that playing deeper cant go all in all the time.

Was ok tonight and at least wasnt make first pass he saw he was changing direction of play a few times.
 
He won 3 duels out of 9 and added nothing in attack.

He has the talent to do more but people are content with him being a very poor man’s Kante.

He's been like this for a long while even before the injury. The only season from him where he was more daring and creative was the first when he came through.

But after the stint under Xavi he became really safe and looking for layoffs constantly.

Part of it, in my view, is mobility issues. I think he was faster and more agile in season 1.
 
I thought he was ok not great not bad.

Made some decent interceptions but his all in style leaves a lot of room once gets beaten in a duel or dribbled past as he goes all in all the time trying to win ball

Camavinga was the best midfielder tonight looked to me and not a fan of him.
 
Think he played fairly well. Game was won on collective effort and much because it looked we had one player extra on the pitch.
Gavi was instrumental in this.
