6 - Gavi

Better than being a 'Casado fan boy' or claiming Gavi is more important than Pedri.

Other noteable Frenkie fan boys include.... Pedri, Gavi, Yamal, Bernal, Fermin etc.

i don't even like gavi. i think he's currently our worst midfielder except casado but its obvious jamdav has a weirdly obsessive hatred towards him. there's no need to write countless essays on how bad he is

I think he is massively over rated more than shit.

Puig was complete shite.

Casado is nowhere near good enough.

Gavi is better than both but not shown anything to levels some make out and acts like a superstar.

The debate will be clear very soon. Looks like Gavi has a completely open spot in midfield for the first half of the season, his only competition are Bernal and Casado. He returned from injury, he's training and playing for more than half a year, he should join preseason ASAP, he's not a kid anymore... This is it, sink or swin, no more excuses.

Puig is king in Los Angeles pre-ACL.

Right now I see Bernal as more influential to the game and a much more serious talent.

Gavi needs to decide what he is actually good at real fast.

Fan of Bernal and first on here to say he will get to top team at a young age.

But he needs big time to improve his ball progression when deeper.

Sniffs a goal well in box thought but he isnt getting those freer roles in midfield long term.

Pedri often had to play as the deepest midfielder with Bernal as he couldnt progress it well enough.

Gavi is a B2B midfielder, he is very good at that. I don't think at this point he can evolve into something else. The issue is we don't really need one in 80% of our games where we dominate possession. But against the strongest opponents where we fight for possession all the time, he can be vital.

What makes you think Gavi is a very good B2B mf at this stage of his career?

We need his workrate against teams that have an equal or better midfield than us. Can't do anything without the ball, and he gets the ball or disrupts the opponent so they can't do anything useful with it.

Yeah, when you look at individual pieces, he's not that good either offensively or defensively, but he is a workhorse with good technical skill and solid passing.

Gavi adds a lot of tackles..but also a ton of times he is dribbled past or fouls to let teams beat the press.

Positionally he has been weak as chases anything that moves.

It doesnt really matter if Gavi is the second coming of Xavi or not.
He is a backup, and isnt benching Pedri & FDJ anytime soon. For the whole of Flick's tenure, he wasn't even fit to get regular gametime.

You will not find a better backup than him without spending a ton of money. Just hope that his knee is fixed now, and when he starts to get regular gametime, he improves & compete for the starting spot. He is still 21, he has plenty of Football left in him.

FdJ is injured until like January. So Gavi and Bernal will start plenty.

Hope Bernal steps up, a midfield of Gavi Pedri and Olmo/Fermin is just too light, slow, weak and incompatible. I think we'll see a lot of Eric and Christensen in midfield too. Tommy Marques should get serious minutes in preseason too if Flick thinks he's talented enough.

Turns 22 today. Big season coming up for him. Priority is to optimize his fitness and settle into a role to keep growing and cementing a spot. He was atrocious at WC so he has a lot to prove. Good opportunity now with Frenkie out.
