5 - Pau Cubarsí

Under VAR, no way you see it and don't call it.
Ot is harsh and not fair, but still the correct decision

I see it the same. You can find arguments against a red, but at the end of the day, it's a clear 1 vs 1, relying on maybe he would've failed to control it or the ball is slightly behind him... doesn't beat the argument that Cubarsi is still by far the last man, and help is nowhere near.

Only reason we have these CB starters is because of our budget issues.

Hansi must be thrilled to go from Kimmich-Alaba-Boateng-Davies to this Sevilla level back four

The ref had the call right on the field.
That wasn't a red.
Seems only Barca players get reds in this situation.

Konate did the same thing I think last season in the CL and no red

Bingo. That's why we shouldn't too upset. Winning CL with a top tier squad is hard enough as it is. With our squad, it's impossible.

But the issue remains. We have some players who are special, and they are wasted because the rest of the team is average.

Look at our backline.

- Cancelo, reject, loaned from Arabia, can't really defend.
- Cubarsi, teenager form the B side.
- Martin, decent option from the B side.
- Araujo, serial bum no one wants to buy
- Christensen, crooked
- Eric, CB is just 10% of his workload, 1 of the 10 positions he plays because the squad is what it is.
- Kounde, good, 50m.
- Balde, overrated kid from the B side with some potential

That's about it. About 8 players and the only one we paid money for was Kounde. Rest is filling the gaps with cheap options and rushing some kids who are nowhere near ready to win a CL.

Said it in the chat too. Cubarsi did nothing. Did not try to get the ball. He was simply running behind Simeone who extended to the back to get a foul. People get to stuck with certain players. Ref should have been smarter there, we got fucked once again.
Until we learn to play dirty this will happen again and again.

Our high line also encourages these situations. The fact that they keep on occurring is a result of opponents exploiting it. The mistake here is how the last man decided to deal with the situation. Just let the AM player have a go at goal. Worst case scenario? We are one goal down, not one man down.

At least he's no Araujo and takes responsibility for his inexcusable brain fart, which is the very least we can expect. The only problem is, we don't seem to learn from it and repeat it season after season. All season's work to reach CL playoffs only to throw it all away every single time. I'm tired boss....

"I take responsibility" doesn't sound like "Sorry to let the team down (again)" but it's still better than Araujo after Inter or running away to Israel.

Every single CB on that list is better than Cubarsi, and should start over him. And can we please stop with the CB bs. If he isn't ready to be on the pitch he should indicate that to the manager. Lamine is a teenager too, and he is getting the job done.

Barça lack an athletic, tall, ball playing CB in the Saliba/Gabriel/van Dijk (prime) mould. A player of that profile next to Cubarsí is needed.

Someone like van de Ven would be a good addition in some ways. His recovery speed and ability to carry the ball. But his positioning is questionable.

Over reacting by the usual suspects he did absolutely nothing wrong, the players trailing leg caught him.

Was he suppose to not run back?.

The ref had the call right on the field, but strictly according to the rules it's a red. It's that simply.

Martin is the one who actually fucked up on the 2nd goal

Did we really forget after one mistake how stellar he has been in the past few weeks? Yeah it sucks his mistake came at a cost of really important game but why is he getting all the blame when we have a guy like Rashford with triple of Cubarsi's salary and all we saw from him yesterday was wasting handful of good scoring chances.

I have nothing against Rashford but the truth is it's really hard to win these games if we can't score goals when it's needed.

Madrid's ineptitude in the league and Bumsi overachieveing with this squad has made those stinky Catalans in the board think we are good to go with Martin and Cubarsi as starters. Not much pressure to reinforce defense when league is won and you can blame the financial situation on Barto again and again.

Stellar? How easy we big up players around here.

Mate, a player is stellar if he delivers top performances in big games. In the last weeks he showed some improvements that gave us some hope he is on the right track in his development.

Then the actual test came, and he shat the bed again in even worse fashion. Showing he learned and improved nothing from last season. If 4 seasons pass and he's not even making one step since debuting in 2022-23, then maybe we need to realize he's bench material.

This reminds me of Xavi vs PSG moaning about the sending off of Araujo. Maybe it's time we actually address the issues instead of moaning about red cards. You don't fucking touch his legs from behind as last man. Period.

For what it's worth, Iturralde who is probably the best analyst in Spain on refereeing matters, sees it as a red, and I tend to agree. And a pen on Pubill of course. So, the ref clearly played a part in the loss, but our fuck-ups were immense and played the biggest role in this very bad defeat.

I do wonder - after 4 seasons of reds in big games - is there an actual chat around what not to do in these situations? It seems impossible that there wouldn't be, but the way our defenders seem to want to always take the red card option beggars belief. Let's also not forget the other reds in the league we've gotten over the last 4 years in similar fashion - Araújo against Madrid, Eric Garcia (I forgot against whom)....is this team mentally challenged or something ?
