3 - Alejandro Balde

To this day 22/23 is the best season he's played for us.

Why has he regressed to this degree? He was seen as an elite talent back then.
 
He's the same player, the only difference was that back then we had hope he'll improve, now we know he won't.
 
Mendes client, hopefully that facilitates a decision on his future but despite only being 22 it might be time to think about cashing in after having played 143 out of 640 possible minutes since returning from injury (As sub for Cancelo)

Considering all the talk of selling players, seems a certainty he will exit

2024-25 he did pretty well and Imo that was his best season for us. It is just that he got injured and we missed him a lot in the Inter semi final.
 
There were glimpses of hope, but he's just very one-dimensional because he lacks creativity, 1v1 and can't use his right foot to save his life so therefore easy to defend against. Ffs, dude can't even cross. Defensively he never stood out either. If somebody is crazy enough to pay +50M for him I'd sell in a heartbeat because I think he's reached what he can become. Sure he was an elite talent, but that talent wasn't enough to take him to the next step. Bojan, Fati et al - same same...
 
He regressed because he didn't improve and that made people doubt if he ever will. Over time, he started doubting too. Now his every touch on the ball looks like doubt. His confidence is very low. He is a super fast footballer who barely even uses his speed.

I can't remember the last time this guy outpaced someone. Like, beat another player in a footrace during a match. Has he lost pace due to injury?

You think?? 40m? Maybe last season when his hype was much bigger than his talent, I think we'd be lucky if we walk away with 20-25m. Other clubs can see what we see and this season he's playing really bad and I don't think there is much more to get out of him. Sure he's fast and can kick the ball with his left past a player and outrun him on a good day - but he can't 1v1, cross, use his right, defend or pass really well.

Flick on balde.

He's improved a lot but needs to make the final step, cancelo offers more in attack and that's why he's starting.

AKA he needs to be more consistent with his final ball in attack.

Did he really say :Cancelo offers more in attack"?

How I saw his quotes was at least more positive on Balde than Kounde.

Yea he did if. Google translate is correct.

Yeah he can try to take that step at another club...
 
I noticed how close Flick is to all the players, including Balde who he personally bonded with him prior to his late substitution. I think his comments reflect what we all see & say about the player, he has to step up. I assumed competition would drive that with Cancelo so we’ll see but I agree he has more chance to continue than Koundé IMHO

However player is squandering opportunities that cannot be certain will continue to present themself - he’s a bubble asset that could be sold if the right offer were to come in from EPL

I honestly don't think he has more in him to step up and the competition seems to have put him down because he can clearly see from Cancelo what he could never do.
