29 - Hamza Abdelkarim

Hamza will get some minutes this season. If fails, by January he's heading for the loan list.

The club made an investement in him and it's not to feature an 1.5m player in Segunda Federacion.

He needs to play. Shouldn't be wasting a season as our off the bench option when he could get solid LaLiga2 minutes.

So far I really like him, but it should be unnecessary that he is an A team option this season.

Generally, I would agree.
But if no poacher is signed, and if Flick is convinced with Hamza (big if) it is better to get 1.2k minutes with first team on Barca than 3.5k in Liga 2

Unfortunately, it doesn't work like that. Players' performance are also tied to the positions they play in and the qualities they have. Same player might work in a position, and then you'd see his output drop if you ask him other things.

Ferran the winger played number 9, so did Gordon, while Adeyemi the striker moves to wings in BVB, Raphinha the RW played better at LW, and Dembele the winger played his best as no9.

The idea that position in attack is so rigid is ridiculous.

Ferran played false 9 long before Flick. There was a documented history of him working there under the right system. It is not the same as Adeyemi and Gordon working there. Adeyemi and Gordon look to be like depth for LW and RW.

Tremendously risky to view them as no9s.

Ferran is a Spanish striker. The winger stint was to get some minutes.

It's not that the position is rigid, but the qualities of the players lend themselves to false 9 role or not. Ferran's do. Gordon? No way. Adeyemi, improbable, but decent shot.

You seem to believe any player can just be moved from the wings to false 9 just like that.

Btw, first approach by Flick is to line up with Gordon LW and moving Raphinha to 9. That should tell us a bit that it's all a bit hazy in his head.

Not that I have to mention it, but put me in the pessimistic camp for this season. We started the summer strong, but I imagined something different. Not that we'll contemplate Hanza Abdelkarim as a reliable option at 9 going into a season where we plan to attack CL title. Extremely disappointing how the window progressed for us.

Maybe Flick will figure it out on the go, but he might have some big surprises.

Awful finishing on the goal. Lucky that close to goal but way overhit it and from wrong angle.

Need to be putting a bit of feeling behind it when connecting with crosses like that.

I believe players are far more flexible than fans give them credit to. I've witnessed players like Mascherano and S.Roberto change their positions and fans refusing to believe it for 8 years.

Ferran was just like Gordon, and fans were resistant to the idea the same way, but now fans are acting like he is a true striker.

You are delusional if you think that Gordon and Adeyemi weren't signed with taking Torres minutes at 9 in mind.

I get what your're saying but wr signed them to replace Rashy and Roony.

Did we even know when Gordon came that Ferran will leave? Doubt it. Of course now they will be used like that, since I doubt we'll be signing two top 9s. But it's not pre planned, it is more solve it as you go approach.

Also, it is not a question for me of intent. Even if they will be used like that, it remains to be seen how it goes. Deco and Flick were in charge with the squad decisions, and they will pay the price if the 9 situation tanks our season.

The tactics of Flick require a lot of offensive power, this is not the Spain team, score and then keep possession and control the game, with 1-0 in mind. Pass teams around and dominate possession. The tactics we use have quite big differences to Spain and Spanish managers in general. Spanish managers are very defensive oriented for example.

I said itafter Adeyemi announcement, anyone who believed that is delusional. Those deals were 100% done with Ferran leaving in mind and knowing they will take good chunk of his minutes. The new no9 will take the rest along Lewa's minutes.

This is what I believed also. We were unhappy with Rashford for big games after even having to use Fermin LW vs Atletico, and Roony didn't count at all, so we upgraded both with better options. A bit like how the big teams have two very quality wingers sharing minutes to keep everyone fresh and competitive.

So, between the lines, we overestimated the club's ambitions, and signings we thought were upgrades for the wings are in reality downgrades on Lewandowski and Ferran?

So what promised to be a summer where we shorten the gap to the big teams is now turning into a summer which will leave our attack, at least on paper, in worse state?

I don't buy that. I buy that they wanted Pedro and Alvarez, failed on both ends, and now they approach it with... we have Gordon and Adeyemi signed, might as well try to make it work with what we have.

You need 5 great to good attackers. We have 4 and we are missing one. That one will be the difference between how good or worse our attack is.

Gordon and Adeyemi are combined net positive over Ferran and Rashford. One is very streaky who had 3 months that he couldn't hit an open net, the other can only score but can't do rest of the work.

You upgrade on certain qualities and lose on others, like in most transfers.

We get Alvarez, and that is a perfect summer for our attack, you get a Marmoush (as an example) on loan and we have either took a step back or stayed the same.

Hamza, if he stayed with first team, will be the 6th man in attack, with a certain role.
