Frenkie probably been the Barca player to have played the best so far.

Pedri not far behind.

Reijnders and Gravenberch will need to do more in build up v the better sides to help the Dutch when pressured but yesterday didnt really need that.
 
Currently, obviously. But he had/has better potential imo. Can be CM/DM hybrid, very level headed, can play in any tactical set up, great passing range, good pace etc. Joao is more of a destroyer and better athetically yes but De Jong isn’t bad athletically either. De Jong can play multiple midfield postions and I don’t think Joao would do as good as him on Dutch Jersey with those midfield partners.
 
Sometimes people really get confused by team’s outperformance that masks individual limitations. Do you guys think Joao would perform better than De Jong in Dutch Jersey or even as good? Do you believe De Jong would thrive in Enrique’s PSG and current Portugal midfield?

Joao is levels above him off the ball and on the ball it's really tough to dispossess him too. He's very complete.

He also has the bite, grit and winning mentality which Frenkie doesn't have. He got that Gavi gene. 😏

PSG would be considerably easier to play through if FDJ replaced Neves.

Neves is a menace off the ball. Frenkie is soft and easier to bully off the ball. He tries but Neves is simply tougher to dribble past and a better ball winner.

Yes, I agree about the later part although I had seen those grits and bite from De Jong during his CL campaigns against Real. Sometimes, the need to carry Barca’s ‘DNA’ to be calm, collected midfielder actually takes off the edge from a player though. Have seen that many many times. We take away the fighting, grittiness and directness from players to make to be our system player imo. Just my observation.
 
Yes, I agree De Jong doesn’t have Neves’ ball winning or destroying capabilities. But he is more of a CM/DM hybrid and could do really great alongside someone like Casemiro or Rice.

Gravenberch was the most important player for the Dutch getting the result and Spain drew against Cape freaking Verde.

Pedri had a good game, mid game by his high standards. Ferran and Gavi were awful

Would just be nice to have both of them for a big part of the season. Feels like it was ages ago where they are both fit, in form and actually played a few consecutive matches together without one or the other getting injured. A real shame, since both in form give us the best midfield in the world. But this practically never happens lately.
 
I'm sure dutch CBs had more touches with the ball than he did. Can't be arsed to look for statistics now. If anything it's very close

Sad ending for Frenkie here. Next WC he's already "old" and there are some nice midfield talents coming through
