21 - Frenkie de Jong

With Gavi back and bernal fit, I think we'll see a shit ton of rotations next season to the point we won't be able to say who is a starter outside of Pedri.

Unless someone form falls of a hill.

But you are right that no fan base copes more in football than de jong fanboys, especially for a player that's closer to 30 than he is to 25.

You Don't see rodri. b Silva etc fanboys cope has hard because they do their talking on the pitch.

We are on like a 1 billion game run without him, and they are silent as a lamb. something like this happens at least once every year the past 3 seasons. But they tell you we are nothing without de jong.

When similar runs happen with lewa or raphinha on the bench, they highlight it with the quickness.

They say Pedri was out and we won. The answer to that is what they said on the Spanish football podcast. Pedri is Pedri.

But he'll be fine next season, he's a good player and important member of the squad. Just not vital.

By far the best midfield performance v Real this season was Frenkie in Supercopa Final.

Folk are going massively over the top about Gavi on Sunday.

He was decent but Real largely left him on ball and couldnt do much with it.

Barca have won without Pedri, barely lost in months without Raphinha, won last few without Yamal.

As if Barca win every season without Frenkie...

23/24.. Barca were top and Frenkie best player before injury.
24/25... Barca were 7 points off Real and barely winning in months before Frenkie back.

Barca also have won 2 titles with Gavi being a non entity and in the one won before that he wasnt even top 10 player in team in Xavis win.

He's not going to be sold. Even if they somehow sign Bernardo Silva.

Flick will keep him as an integral part of the team.

Folk love these highlights of Gavi as if world class..

They miss out all the situations on Sunday he was dribbled past and lost duels.

Gavi v Real lost 6 of 9 duels.
Gavi v Real was dribbled past 3 times.. the most in Barca side.
Gabi v Real 0 chances created.
Gavi v Real 0 through balls.
Gavi v Real NEGATIVE yds ball carried.

Same performance others get scolded for.

He played ok and looks more mobile but was nothing special in slightest.

Missing again and wasn't at Lewa's farewell ceremony.
As he went missing through most of his career.

Frenkie reminds me of Rakitic in the sense that he gets super hated on for still being pretty damn good to WC even at times for Barca

Atm, I would rate Rakitic higher as club legend than Frenkie - some of the most glorious moments during MSN era were with Rakitic involved

Rakitic was very very good his main problem was he was replacing Xavi. Back then jf he didn't complete 100 passes he was messing up.

He did a lot of hard work covering that right side as well.

I do like Frenkie and I think honestly Frenkie deserved some small amount of pain for the contract and transfer blocking. But, he has acquitted himself well since his long term ankle injury and I would consider him equal in skill with Rakitic

I also believe, like even Lucho himself as a player, only few players can elevate their game for the occasion - that demands you stepping up. Ivan was one of those players, even if he wasn't as polished as Iniesta, Xavi or Busquets - the most box to box midfielder of modern Barça for me. Too many modern egos talk the talk few walk the walk, Rakitic definitely doesn't get respected enough for what he contributed to Barça

We see players like Fermin & Dro, soon Tunkara with similar profiles that are not often arriving into the 1st team dynamic from La Masia. Most are polished positionally & technically elite - few are brutal dangers like Ivan could be throughout his career. Fermin maybe has a different career trajectory had his loan not switch something because his ceiling looks pretty impressive. Yet, I wonder if Tunkara gets some chances in pre-season because he is something unique at Barça IMHO

I think in terms of foreign midfielders, Ivan is a legend and a rare profile you just don't see at Barça either, normally. Yaya could've been that but never quite reached it - I think he owes his City prominence to being forced to reposition as an AM like Ivan since a scrawny Busquets would own his position for a generation

Do you know something that we don't? If not, then you just like to create drama.
Not nice, especially when it's about one of our best players.

Lets not compare him to players he won't be able to live up to.

Rakitic got hated on as he got older and slower.

Prime rakitic was loved by all, I struggle to even compare him to Pedri tbh.

That world cup performance by Croatia he was every bit as good as Modric, at work just a half step behind.

Raktiic was terrible in a lot of the bad European defeats also and was at his best for Barca with MSN when he covered for Alves to come into midfield.

The big mistake with Rakitic was not selling him to PSG..if that offer was true.

And the Netherlands made the semifinals and were the better for him being out.

If anything he should want to be missing again lol.

At some point his fans will need to accept that him being out doesn't lead to negative impacts on his teams. Their are changes In how the team plays because every player is different, but different doesn't mean deficient, as the results show
