21 - Frenkie de Jong

This is insane... yet he went all in during the WC, asshole.

In his defense many players "underperfomed" or held back during last season because of the WC.

McAlister is the first one who comes to mind.

So what's the latest news??? Is he going to have the surgery or what? When? How serious is the surgery? When will he be back after the surgery?

I feel like he's been toying with us. Injury after injury and he's calling the shots it seems instead if professionals. After his last injury Flick eased him in, only for Frenkie to tape up his up knee like a fucking mummy and go full retard during the WC - only to come back injured again and again calling the shots on his treatment.

Also, if reports are right... something didn't feel right with his knee even before the first WC game, yet he played through the pain. After the WC, instead of checking in with our doctors he went on a 2 week vacation to Ibiza. He's fucking with us at this point...

Read he will return to training on the grass after international break.
I can tell you what will happen already now...
He'll be back in October to train lightly, after a month or so he'll start training with the team, in December he'll fuck his knee up again, in January he'll get the surgery and be out until May, than he'll start to train and get back in shape just in time for some bullshit Nations league game for Holland around August.

What can we do? We can't force him to take the surgery, he has a contract so we have to pay him anyway. We took away his captain status but can't do much more. The mistake was made when we extended his contract. I'm 99% sure he won't play this season.

We took his captain status away because he'll be out AT LEAST until January, if everything goes well he might get some minutes around February - we need a captain on the pitch, not in Ibiza. But things WON'T go alright I'm sure, in January he'll get the surgery - he most probably won't play a single minute this season. Worst part is, we won't be able to sell/loan him next summer either, he has to play a couple of months before somebody takes chance on him - beside that, he'll probably block all requests and get injured again in August 2027.

We had long term injuries to our captains before but we never took their armband. This is punishment and Flick deciding he can't have such a person as the leader which is a correct thing to do.

He will never agree to a transfer, we have to wait out until 2029. He can still be useful when healthy but that's not going to be soon.

I somewhat defended him against many haters up until this summer - but him going all-in at the WC after we eased him in for months after his last injury was the last nail in the coffin. Sure I want him back and helping us again, but I won’t go easy on him when he fucks things up.

What if Flick plays him at CB when he returns? He played that with Koeman. Defensively would probably be a nightmare but could help in buildup, which fits our all out philosophy.

I don't see how he fits in midfield. Sure you could tweak something to fit him with Pedri and Rodri. But Fermin and Olmo are both in excellent form, there is zero chance Flick drops an in form player just to force in a player returning from injury.

Either that or he sits on the bench.

As pissed off as I am with De Jong, I haven't completely gave up on him, there's still a bit of home remaining. Still waiting somehow to come good late in his Barca career.

He has his flaws, but unlike Ter Stegen he is quality when fit and match ready, so definitely a plus if he is available - we will need every bit of quality and rotation throughout the season to compete for every trophy - he is still our best midfielder behind Pedri/Rodri. In certain settings might be on par with them even (De Jong in Clasicos is world class, Kroos knows)

Frenkie is a great asset for the club. With Rodri and Bernal at the position, the CDM is clearly more than covered.

It's a dream for every coach. Players competing for a single position.

I do hope he gets back and stays fit and helps the team win trophies again. That way he can leave on a note and hopefully we recuperate some of that 80 million (which, adjusted to inflation is probably 130 now).
